Was listening to a podcast this morning and it got me thinking how we typically play pretty bad in the first quarter against OU. Didn't realize how bad it actually was until I looked it up. Seems like one of the keys to this game should be making sure we have a good first quarter/first half.

Since Matt Campbell has been here, OU is outscoring us 52-13 in the first quarter and 59-41 in the second quarter (111-54 first half). On the flip side, we are outscoring them 32-20 in the third quarter and 44-13 in the fourth quarter (76-33 second half). Hopefully we can get it going early on Saturday.

Almost mirrors how the season works for Campbell. Why is that? Lack of proper prep? Too reactionary?

Who does ISU tend to play well vs. in the 1st quarter? Tech?

Last season OU was coming off of a loss and a bye so they were firing on all cylinders to start out.

Their horrible defense eventually shun through so ISU was able to almost pull it off.

Like Musberger said when we were down by 22 in the second half of the great OU come back (basketball) game....we got em right where we want em!

Idk if OU was on fire, Hurts should have thrown 2 INT's early in that one, one White dropped should have been a TD, the other was a tipped ball in the end zone that resulted in a TD for . We let them off the hook

Who do we ever start off hot against? We are usually a 2nd half team.
I don't remember the last time we've scored a TD on the opening drive. Coaching staff seems to be very reactive towards the other team early in the game, almost like they want to see what they other team is doing rather than dictating the game themselves.

This is weird because the first offensive possession is usually scripted and practiced.

Prior to Campbell ISU was shut out in the first quarter 8 out of 12 times against OU in Big 12 play. The times ISU wasn't shut out they scored 7 twice('06, '07), 6('11), and 3('15). That's 23 of their 116 total points scored in those games (19.8%).

ISU has rarely had much success against OU in the first quarter.

FIFY.

Plenty of times when the first quarter was basically how the rest of the game turned out.

The point is less than 1/5 of the points scored were scored in the first quarter so it isn't like a bad first quarter (relative to the entire output) is anything new.

And, while the team was shut out in the first quarter 8 of 12 times, ISU was totally shut out in the game only 1 of those times.

Was meant as a lighthearted comment but your points are valid.

In some ways it's quite a feat to only beat a team 6 times historically.

I feel like this is EVERY OU game -- not just against ISU. They seem to get ahead by 21 pretty quickly and then coast from there.
