OU improved, what about ISU

Both teams have improved, but OU has also had a much weaker slate of games down the stretch than we have. Sure, OU destroyed KU and UT in ways we didn’t, but we destroyed a team OU lost to (K-State) and another team which OU now won’t face in WV.

I’m not denying OU has improved since our loss to us, but that improvement IMO seems to have faded a bit in the past few weeks. Meanwhile, what nobody wants to discuss, at least nationally, is how ISU has been almost on another plane of existence since halftime of the Baylor game.

Word to the land thieves. First, we have gotten worse so don’t worry about us, you can trot your backup out and beat us by 30. So party it up the whole week no problems.

Second, do you ever question your ancestors for settling on that crappy red dirt that grows weeds and snakes mostly. I don’t care if it’s free. It’s like being handed a Yugo. Some things are even a bad deal when they are free.
A history lesson on a football message board....What the hale! Awesome

Gotta watch that fullback pass where he slips out. Riley has been killing us with that for years.

I personally don't think Oklahoma is a very good team. Their offense, even more so than most teams, goes as their QB goes and Rattler has been very inconsistent.

I think it's as simple as this: they're better than when we beat them, and we are too. But against OU, I don't think we'll have the room for error that we had against Texas, where we can make some critical mistakes and still eek out the win.

We need to be solid and pretty mistake-free all the way around, and efficient on offense - touchdowns, not field goals. I'm encouraged by the Kansas State and WV games where we were nearly flawless, but sandwiched in there was the Texas game, which gives me a bit of pause.

But make no mistake, this game is absolutely winnable.

OU has a sneaky good run defense, giving up 88 yards a game and to me their defense has actually been...playing defense this year.

ISU will need to continue to make about the whole defensive unit commit to the run so Purdy can play catch as they still get leaky on the back end.

Hall is like a lot of good RBs in that he gets better as the game goes on and it would be fun seeing that happen this go around late in the game. I think he was kind of dinged up vs. WV via the patch on the arm so two weeks' rest may help.

It will be interesting to see how our guys respond to the bright lights on the big stage. OU has the experience of being there time and time again.
In the past this can be said about us but that Texas game was at bright of the stage as this team played in and handled it. I'm not worried anymore about the moment being to big for this team.

Rattler has looked really really good against $hitty to average teams. I'm really looking forward to our scheme confusing the crap out of him next Saturday. I get that the kid is uber talented but his cocky a$$ needs to be humbled again. Take the deep ball away from OU and they struggle to put drives together. Our safeties need to really tighten things up but I think we will be fine.

I would love to see rattler get his bell rung

This may have been discussed and I missed it:

There's a lot of talk about how OU is firing on all cylinders and has improved since our first meeting. I'm not arguing that, but, let's talk about how much our beloved Cyclones have also improved.

I'll start: Xavier Hutchinson has stepped up!

I agree that both teams have improved dramatically, especially at the QB position. Ever since Brock's 3 int. first half, he has made great strides in his execution and decision-making. He's running the ball much more and going down when he needs to. His completion percentages are amazing!! Only 3 incompletions against what was thought to be a very good WVU defense!?

As usual, we're not giving the ball up much, while getting a decent share of TO's. I would put our LB crew up against anybody in the country, and that is mainly because the D-line is deep and playing at a level that's maybe as good as I've ever seen, and I've seen many, (almost 60 yrs. worth)!! We've had teams with better individuals on defense, but never with the depth and consistency of this year.

At the start of 2020, I thought out offense had a chance to be A+, but the WRs didn't develop and/or contribute as much as I'd hoped. That position too, has improved by leaps and bounds over the last month. Having #1 back doesn't hurt either. We have superior the talent at TE every time we take the field. BHall is possibly the best we've ever had. 'Bama may have the numbers, but as far as starters, (and maybe even two-deeps), I'll put our offense up against anybody's in the country!

Bottom line, as usual, OU has higher ranked recruits, and MAYBE more depth, but we have the best damn coach and the hardest working damn players in the galaxy!!!!!!

I never doubted this day would come, I just wondered if it would be in my lifetime!!!

If we play our game, I do truly believe we will win!!!!!!!!!

ISU has shown a ton of improvement in their last 3 games. Purdy just seems to be making all the right choices. The TEs are playing way better than early in the year, particularly Kohler, who seemed to be pretty limited coming off injury. Hutchinson and Shaw have also made great strides. OL has been pretty physical the last few games. Some guys still getting blown up at times, but that is more of a factor of teams loading up the box to stop Hall.

I watched them against Baylor, and I don't see this so-called big improvement. Their big time running back didn't do much, and our pass defense will clamp down on their receivers. I do hope we dial up the blitz package more than once a quarter. If Ratler gets too much time to scramble around he may make me spill my drink. The best strategy is to send everyone early and often to crush this kid and send him to the treatment tent for the rest of the game.

The improvement in they Cyclones has been in the offensive line play, if they have a good game against OU, we win. If they do not, its going to be difficult. Both the running game and passing game have been clicking because Brock has had time to throw and Breece and Kene have had holes to hit the second level.

The change in Brock, post 3 INTs, has been the play calling where the long ball was removed. IMO, Brock isn't a quality long ball thrower and makes mistakes when/where to throw that.

short version is the play calling has been modified for Brock so he can be effective.

It’s funny to see the shift in confidence - a week ago everyone was sweating WVU. I would just like to say, for the benefit of anyone from the CFP committee, that I think OU is a top 3 team at this point in the year. Anyone that beats them certainly deserves a spot in the playoffs.
