OT - Home Loan Refund Solicitations

Ok, here's the scoop- this company sent me your money, but it is in an overseas account so I can't access it right now because of the Chinese New Year and Groundhog Day. What I need is for you to send me a personal check for $1000. Then I will verify the routing number of your bank, subtract the commissions for Yao Ming and Punxsutawney Phil, and return the balance to you.

The proverbial check is in the mail Seattle :biglaugh::biglaugh:. I must say, your grammar is very much gooder than those similiar e-mails .

There was an old man who died in Nigeria and left us the sum of 1 million American Dollars. We are in need of an American bank account to put the money into and will split it in half with you. Please send us your bank account number for direct deposit.

If I were you, I'd attempt to recover it on your own. Chances are, this amount if public information somewhere, and these con men are just phishing to get you to send them money for something you could do yourself.

If multiple people/companies are telling you the same thing, that's a big giveaway. Talk to your old mortgage lender, they'll know.

Last year I was contacted regarding a class action lawsuit against the siding manufacturer of my home. (I personally don't see anything wrong with it) This company claims mine is about 85% damaged and my cut would be about $2,200.
They wanted copies of my tax receipts and wanted me to sign a limited power of attorney. I said thanks, but no thanks.
