OT - Cutting Cable

I signed up for a streaming service from a guy in Clear Lake my Nephew met last winter during a snow storm. It is $25/month and seems to have all the sports channels, movies, networks, etc. Not sure how he can do it for that kind of money, but it seems to work so far. Might post the website after a couple more months of use. Don't want to lead anyone down a rat hole, if in fact that is where I am at. I have not watched any sports yet because I don't like baseball and that is about all there is for live sports this time of year. There are 65 sports channels, so hopefully I will get all the Clone games.

My wife picked it up this last weekend to play with. After a few hours she seemed to like it, but we could not figure out how to get YTTV native on it.

We have had YTTV since about Dec, and I did not get offered that deal.

Call in and complain. I have PsVue, but the best part of any of these services is that they know that at anytime you are able to switch to another. Therefore, you retain negotiation leverage. Unlike with cable or satellite who take all your power away when you sign a 2 year contract. Then they can hike the price and treat you like crap as a customer and there is nothing you can do about it. Any month to month service is way more willing to talk and negotiate from SXM radio to streaming services than services provided on contract.

Anyone see the deal on the Amazon Recast? I was really close to pulling the trigger. Only problem is we have about a 50 / 50 mix of Roku / Firetv and the Recast won't work with the Roku devices.

I got this info from cordcutters. Looks like they might have a typo.

" Right now you can add YouTube TV to the Fire TV Stick (2nd Gen), Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Cube, Fire TV Stick Basic Edition, and on all Fire TV Edition smart TVs. The new and improved YouTube app will expand to Fire TV (1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen) and Fire TV Stick (1st Gen) in the coming months. Amazon says that YouTube TV and YouTube Kids launching later this year."

I called Dish with the intent to cancel and go to YTTV. Guy made a point that sounded legit but wondered if any of you had experience with this....he asked if I had watched a sporting event over a streaming service. I had not. He said the quality of the broadcast would often be lower quality due to the stream (streaming has variables such as signal to the house, WiFi strength, number of people drawing off of the stream, etc.). Thought there may be some merit to this point. We are used to sharp HD quality for watching games. How much of a drop in quality would I expect in general watching football games via a service such as YTTV?

When I turn to the station, the message states: Nexstar, the owner of this station has removd it from your lineupdespite our request to keep it available for you, etc.

Just kind of odd that one of the 3 Major Networks has been taken away. Very odd indeed. It's not like losing the Food Channel.

Contract dispute between directv and whoever owns WOI. And of course directv puts up a message saying it is only the fault of the other side.

I didn't really notice any quality drop with YTTV, Hulu or PSVue . It might be 5 seconds behind the radio or live tv, though. Not worth enough to stick with dish or directv. If you have solid wifi, there is not really any issue.
