OT - Cutting Cable

I jumped onto Directv in 2001. Two years ago, I crossed paths with a guy that could load up every channel I could imagine onto a Amazon Fire TV Stick for $100 a year. We now use two of those throughout the year and STILL have Directv, but it's only active from September-February for football/basketball seasons. March-August, our account is on "vacation/sleep mode". DTV charges us $7 a month to do that, but I'll take that over the $100 a month bill it used to be.

Call me old fashion but I think I'll stick with a legal platform and pay a few bucks a month...

I've tried Hulu, YTTV, DirecTV Now, Sling, and PS Vue and still prefer Mediacom. 192 dollars a month for 200 mbps, and their top tier package that includes HBO/Starz/Cinemax/Showtime with 1 main Tivo and a mini. Even with 200 mbps and a hardwired connection streaming sports always had the delay. I can't deal with the 30 seconds-1 minute delay on sports. The best delay I've received was probably 15 seconds, but it was still enough to where my phone would announce a winner of a game on the ESPN app before the game was over for me. If I went with just internet it would be about 100 dollars, and without the premium channels the base package is about 60. DirecTV Now's prices are in the 100's now for certain packages.

EDIT: and no contract

My YTTV is about 5 seconds behind the real world. I only noticed because I had ESPN text alerts setup. Now I turned that off and could care less if I am a bit behind.

This is better than it used to be. When I see the price hike I'll have to do the number crunching game. I couldn't believe it when they said no contract for mediacom. I'll gladly take the price I got for the year lmao.

So you don't like anybody. Is there a recommendation of which to use in this post?

My recommendation is to do your homework and make sure cutting the cord is worth it, it can be a game at times, and I spent two years switching services to keep costs low, but in the end my favorite experience was Mediacom, followed by YTTV, Sling was the worst for me, and Direct TV Now ditched longhorn network right after I signed up.

I've had PSVue for two years and couldn't be happier. I'm not going to switch around just to save 10 or fifteen bucks. Plus DTV can SMD

Yeah DTV Now really almost had me fooled, but their prices are damn near on par with their satellite prices, just no contract. Which..if you love direct TV only for sports maybe this is for you, but I hated the interface.

My promo price with ATT Uverse is just about up, so I am starting up a YouTube TV trial. It wo UK ld probably save me 60-70 per month. So far I'm pretty pleased with yttv. I think I'll probably stay the course here and cut the cord.

We went to Mediacom around 15 months ago for the basic service. I have a Tivo, but only on one TV. Only get the locals in HD, and the other channels were "given" to us by our salesperson. But they are in SD and like History channel is hit or miss.

I'm just waiting for my wife to give the greenlight to Hulu Live. We tried them all a few months ago and they had the lineup that matched up to what we watch best and the clarity was awesome. We had PSVue for a couple years, but it was so hard to watch TV. But I blame that on my wireless set up. I always thought it was Medicacoms fault.

Somebody on here suggested a Unifi network. It was really pricey but since I work from home and do some consulting work I am writing it off this next year. But it has been rock steady and allowing 120% speeds constantly. I feel bad wasting Mediacom's time whining to them monthly. I guess they should've recommended a better wifi.

I love YTTV, interface is great, I get all the same sports channels I had with DTV (at least the ones I cared about).

My main complaint with Sling so far is the way they do the channel guide. You scroll through the orange, then scroll through the blue, and then maybe the orange + blue? I don't know, but there's duplication between the packages, so you scroll past the same channels a couple times on one pass through (I know you can set favorites). Also, when you scroll down to the bottom, you have to reverse direction and go all the way back through (because it stops at the top and bottom rather than cycling through again).
Agree. You can set it up so that it will show channels that are duplicate between blue and orange as only within the blue channels. That way you don't use the single orange stream for a channel that is in the 3 stream blue channels.

I use the horizontal schedule guide and it has favorites and then blue channels and then orange channels. With the 4 extra pack and sports extra it makes for way too many channels to scroll thru and also to have no wrap around at the end.

Sometimes easier to go to a previous channel so that it resets your location in the guide to that channel vs. scrolling all the way back to the beginning...

Also...YTTV is giving me free Showtime until September...did every YTTV subscriber get that offer? Automatic cancellation when the deal runs out...so that is nice as well!

Giving hulu live another try since YTTV does not have history. Almost every thing we watch is on-demand and I can get the no-commercials for about the same price as YTTV. With the on-demand, DVR is not as much of an issue. Will see how we get a long. Hoping the new UI is released sooner than later.

I'm possibly making the switch from PSVue to YoutubeTV at the end of this month.
PSVue just keeps going up in price. Seems like $5 every 6 months.

I think this is something being seen mostly across the board. YTTV has had price hikes also (up $15 from launch in 2017).
