OT - Cutting Cable

Just came to the realization that YouTube.tv doesn't have TruTV. Might be an issue over the next couple of weeks. Won't notice it any other time of the year.

Watching the play-in games on youtubetv right now. It carries all the NCAA networks

Haha, I never noticed that. Hopefully no games I want are on trutv. I guess if ISU gets stuck on TruTv, its off to the bar I go.

Yes it does.

Hulu live TV will give you all the sports channels you need for ISU. I didn't miss a single game in either football or basketball.
My total bill is $55 but includes 5 tvs and no commercials. You can go cheaper if you want.

I liked Hulu live once i got use to the interface. I now am using Youtube since I got a Roku 4K. Both are very comparable but Youtube interface is better than Hulu Live but they are rolling a new one out soon.

My favorite one so far is definitely philo but it has no sports, which, is ok during the summer for me.

I agree, the Hulu interface is a bit clumsy. Using an overline instead of underline for selections makes no sense. But as far as sports channels it's hard to beat. Or at least it was when I signed up, I'm sure the other services probably offer the same channels by now.

Hulu Live is the only one with all the sports, and A&E and History channel. It was awesome. But I'm stuck with Mediacom until they decide that giving me TV channels for "free" is bad business. I was going to drop the TV until they said that having 100 Mb internet down and 20 Mb up was going to cost basically the same without the package.

If they stop giving me that deal I'll jump at the chance to go Hulu Live.

You get 100 down and TV for $50 total? That's what I pay for 100 down only

Having tried ChromeCast, Firestick and now the latest Apple TV, I am so frustrated at the prospects of 'cutting cable', that I'm back to paying Comcast $140 / mo.
I never found chord-cutting to be cost effective; I gotta pay for high-speed internet (to the cable company), then pay up to $40 / mo for any streaming service, which means I'm about $20 less than my comcast fee.
I found the cable interface to be the most efficient and fastest for channel surfing and I have a DVR which for my habits is a necessity. for 20-bucks that's worth it.

I hate comcast, but they got me by the balls and i surrender.

A little late catching up on this thread but IIRC from the research I had done when initially looking to make the switch, the ChromeCast and Firestick aren't as powerful as some other devices. I believe I've heard buffering and difficult user interface being a little clunky from others on these.

As another user pointed out, high-speed internet is basically a given in households these days whether or not streaming these services or not. Maybe a slight upgrade needed if you have slower speeds. I can't imagine many streamers are paying $100-$110 or so for internet and cable tv channels combined. I really grew to hate DirecTV and their constant rate increases. The process of getting rid of it was one of the worst customer service experiences of my life, and I'll never get those 15-20 hours back (not to mention the suggestions of me being called a liar by their support team and not wanting to refund money that was owed to me).

One of the biggest things I like is the freedom to switch next month to another service if I'm not happy or want to try something different. No two year commitments with contract buyout and price increases year 2 or after contract term is up.

I typically avoid Apple products, so I can't comment on that option.

I switched to Mediacom this past fall.

Haven't had any issues. But this was my thought process when I was looking at what to do after leaving DirecTV. I could cut the cord and get something like Hulu, Sling, of YoutubeTV for $50/$60 a month.. but I think in order to have 0 problems with streaming you need good internet and to get good internet you're looking at $70-$90 bucks a month so you're almost right back to where you started.

100 gigs with Mediacom is great internet and the tv package I have is just fine as well. I'm paying a little bit less than I was with DirecTV, but not by much. But.. my internet is WAY better with Mediacom than it was with CenturyLink.

Those who keep saying Hulu Live has the best sports programming...is it any different than YouTube TV? I have had YouTube TV for well over a year and quit looking at the other options. I can't imagine Hulu Live has more sports programming...maybe the same?

Hulu and YoutubeTV both don't have NFL Network (if that's of any importance to you).

That's what I paid for the first 3 years. And I'm guessing if I threatened to quit I could get that. Right now I'm paying $93 for 100, phone, and Tivo with the locals in HD and then the tier up in SD, like History, AE, ESPN, etc. I have Mediacom out almost once a month. They literally just left and have finally said there is some line frequency adjusting that needs to happen on the neighborhood box. We'll see if that doe it this time.

The newer fire sticks, especially the 4K variants are very powerful. Most of the firetv lineup is much more powerful than comparable Rokus.
