OT - Cutting Cable

Just cut the cord last night finally. Was paying $130/month for Directv and $40/month for internet.

Went with PSVue Core for $45/month and bumped up the internet for another $10/month as we have two tvs going and the kids with their ipads. So for $95/month we should be good to go (saving us $75/month). Going to have to research an antenna for local tv channels if there is something we want to watch live and not on-demand.

Anyone else with PS Vue having buffering issues the last month? I am using a fire tv connected with ethernet cable. Netflix and all other steaming works fine but Vue is horrible.

I have noticed it on a couple of channels. USA has been the worst but also on TBS and ESPN2.

I was having issues with TBS during the NCAA tournament. It was the only channel that kept buffering. I Never had an issue with TNT and TruTV.

Yea same setup. The dev interface on the fire tv showed the box is doing 7Mbps with Vue running and over 40 with everything else (I have 100Mb down). I put our Apple TV in the living room and everything is running smooth. Hope they figure out what broke in their Amazon app.

In Ankeny a mohu metro picks up all the locals loud and clear. It's laying on the floor behind the entertainment center.

If your internet provider happens to be Mediacom just plug your cable into the back of your tv and search for channels in setup. You'll get all locals plus some.

I tried this a few months ago and did not work. I have Mediacom internet but did not pick up local channels when I tried this.

We were having issues with TBS on Sling as well during the NCAA tourney. Only a little bit of buffering, but usually a very blurry/pixelated picture (meaning the bandwidth had been throttled back). During the Final Four, if we switched over to the team coverage on TNT, the picture was great.

It seems that TBS wasn't prepared for the demand.

Just curios but h

Yeah, those were my thoughts as well.

Tried this, and it didn't work for me, FWIW.

Did you guys go into setup, choose the 'cable setup' and have it search for channels? It takes a long time but they eventually show up. I find it hard to believe that it's worked for me at my last two houses and it doesn't work for others.

I did a sweep of both cable and air and got only a couple OTA channels. Trust me, I wanted it to work really bad, but it just didn't.

So, we want to cut the cord. I have 2 kids and 5 tv's total, all but 1 with smart capabilities. I want to be able to get all cyclone football and basketball games, and kids like Nickelodeon and animal planet. We are leaning towards direct tv now or YouTube tv. Thoughts or advice? Should I look at others?

DTVN only allows two streams at once, so that may affect your family depending on viewing habits. Youtube TV looks like a great option if you aren't reliant on Fire TVs, like we are.
