OT - Cutting Cable

Yeah, tell that to my wife:(
My wife is as resistant to technology and change as the next, but if logging in one time to something is a deal breaker you might want to get her a cup and ball or an etch-a-sketch. You could even just log in for her on all the devices.

Twitter and other avenues to get highlights out in real time have also decreased the value of live sports in my opinion. I'll still watch stuff if I can, especially ISU related games. But I also know if I miss a game I can watch all the interesting stuff within seconds of when it happened via twitter, even if I'm out mowing the lawn or something.
What does your lawn look like if you watch your phone instead of where you're mowing?

PlayStation Vue looks like the best deal?

I was admittedly excited to hear Google (YouTube) was getting into the game, however I was very disappointed in the limited inventory of channels. No HGTV? Good luck to you...

I have Vue and am happy with it. Plenty of sports and the DVR function was the decider for me.

The Roku interface isn't outstanding, but overall I like it better than Sling.

Now when Hulu Live comes to Roku I might jump ship

The combination of channels on Vue is better for me than on Sling. I wanted both ESPN and to kill my brain with some occasional E! or Bravo, and that wasn't possible on sling, even with add-ons. Sometimes it gets stuck on loading, which is annoying, but overall works pretty well.

I bought a jail-broken Fire Stick about three weeks ago. The number of movies available is crazy. There's a lot of free p0rn too, as well as nearly every Fox Sports extension. Amazon shows a bunch of apps to add regular channels but the couple I've tried (ESPN & CNN) required cable service to verify. I've looked at adding DirecTV Now or Sling apps but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

My other issue is that I've got 5 TVs in the house and it seems like I'd need to add antenna and Fire Stick to each of them?

If you're wired for cable, you can just put a single antenna in the attic/on the roof/where ever you can get reception and hook it into the feed going into the house. As far as buying fire sticks and all that, I figured I can buy a FireTV box per month for what I'm saving over DTV. I have four TVs and I was ahead in the 3rd month after switching to Vue (highest package they offer). If I were to have bought fire sticks, it would have paid for itself in like a month and a half.

I was a huge fan of DTV for a long time but after switching I don't miss it, at all.

Cord cutters.... what type of download speeds are necessary from your ISP to make this watchable for things like live sports? Do I need to pay for 40 M service or could I get by on 10 M?

Also, are there data caps? One ISP in my area has some fine print for their 40 M service that has a data cap of 350 GB/month, wondering this is common and (more importantly) how to calculate how likely I am to hit that cap?

What usually happens is this: She finds something on our 'main' TV that she wants to watch but wants to watch it on a different TV. She runs into that room and figures out (after much ********) that the app the show is on isn't installed on that device. At that point she starts yelling at me... and it progresses from there.

If you get Vue, all of it is on the Vue app, even the on-demand stuff.

I had a 1TB cap when I started my Vue subscription and went over the first month. I had to up to the next speed to get to 2TB cap.

As long as you are actually getting 10mbps you'd be fine but that'd be on the edge, especially if you are using the connection for other things at the same time.

I have Vue and no, not everything is on it.

I agree but that's part of why I like it. I don't want to have to pay for a bunch of junk I don't want to watch. I'm already annoyed it includes BTN and the SEC Network, which I'd happily pay them not to include (because I hate subsidizing the business model that keeps trying to relegate ISU to the G5)

The 10mbps would be fine, the limiting factor would be whatever the data cap is, for 10mbps it's likely really low.

We have 15mbps (usually get around 20-25), and streaming works well, even with multiple devices on. Data cap is set to 250 GB, and have never went over. Been very close once or twice during the winter, watching games and a little more TV than usual, but most months it isn't really a problem. Probably stream on average a couple hours a night, with some weekends getting a lot of use, others none at all.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just curious what isn't on it? I haven't run into anything.

Starz, seasons 1 and 2 of Fargo, CW shows to name a few. Like Judoka said, that's okay it's only an issue for my wife. But so is figuring out how to use a calendar on her phone.

We've thought about getting a streaming package then upgrading our internet to handle the increase. The costs pretty much offset.

Interesting. This might be a game changer for me... any chance you could post a picture of how you connected that?
