OT - Cutting Cable

Might just drop cable all together. Espn has the streaming deal for 4.99 a month. Might try that to see if you actually get everything, would only have to worry about getting fox sports streaming to ensure we can watch all the Iowa State games we can.

That ESPN package you are referencing is “ESPN+” and it DOES NOT have the core ESPN channels. Think of it like you are buying any content that plays on ESPN3. This would be the package you would buy if you were a Drake/UNI fan.

ESPN+ will not carry much if any major conference sports. It will be stuff you could only get on ESPN3 before

I have used Hulu TV the last few months, I was paying for Hulu anyways (to get Always Sunny since they took it off of Netflix), and I like it so far. It gets all the sports channels I need (all the ESPNs, Fox Sports, NBC Sports (including Chicago for Cubs), CBS Sports Network), only thing missing that i watched was NFL Network. Not bad for 40 bucks. Has a DVR, but not as awesome as Youtube TVs and PS Vues though.

Ok

Ok, the way they were advertising it sounded like it was different. I'm sure you guys are right. Very disappointing. Thanks.

I personally think YouTube TV is the best option when it comes to watching ISU athletics, College Football and Pro Sports. YouTube TV is the only package that has the ESPN sports networks (including ESPNU which is critical for basketball season), the Fox Sports Networks including regional channels, and it also has the CBS Sports Network which was necessary to watch the @ Akron game last season. YouTube TV also has Big 10 Network, your local channels (ABC, CBS and FOX) for the bigger CFB and NFL games, as well as the channels needed to watch the NCAA tournament games (TBS, TruTV and TNT).

The only downsides to YouTube TV I can see:

They do not have the NFL Network, which only is a problem for Thursday Night NFL games and those rights may be going to a different outlet anyways.

They do not have LHN, but I can’t find a streaming service that carries it either.
At $40 a month I think this is a bargain from August-March. I would cancel my service after that and then start back up again the following Fall.

Umm PsVue has all this too including the NFL network. I get all this in the elite package for $55. Granted YouTube TV is cheaper though.

PSVue going up another $5, will now be up to $50 a month. Was a great deal at $35 when we signed up, but it's getting to the point where we aren't getting our money's worth. We use it mostly for access to the apps on our tv.
DirecTV now is the same price for the same packages. Any better options out there? Is Hulu good? Youtube tv?
Tia.

Going to try out Youtube.tv and see how that works out. Had the same sentiment as you.

Anyone know if youtube.tv gives you access to apps like ESPN etc?

We've had YouTube.TV since it came to Des Moines. Love it! Just beware there are a couple changes missing (HGTV for one). Also, you can share with 6 accounts/3 streams at once so we share with my sister.

@ccruzen What say you?

Correct, I was saying you get all the same content but forgot to add that YouTube TV is the less expensive option.

I see that PSVue also has the LHN in their sports pack (additional $10), so that may be worth considering if you view the FB game as a PPV type deal.

Also, I see that AT&T also announced today that they are rising the price of DirecTV Now subscriptions by $5 as well (pricing will be updated on July 26).

Just tested, definitely gives WatchESPN access. Any others you want me to check? Also, not sure if it's only the main account or all six.

Did they add HGTV or remove it? Which device do you use? I have a couple Fire TVs but see they don't work for YTTV.

They've never had HGTV.
I'm using a few Nvidia Shield TVs and a Mi Box. My sister uses Rokus. Yeah, the stupid Amazon/Google fight means it's a no-go on fire devices.

Oh yeah, and of course, I use my phone/web browser all the time (like how I'm watching the Cubs game at work right now, please don't tell anyone.)

Made my first switch the other week from a Hulu Live to PSVue. I won’t comment on the services but just want to say that HOLY **** HOW AWESOME IS OT THAT YOU CAN JUST SWITCH BACK AND FORTH MONTH TO MONTH AND NOT HAVE TO TALK YO ANYONE TO DO IT.

It is pretty amazing. We can switch off/on/between services based on what you need for football/basketball/baseball/no TV season, or whatever your individual needs are. Love it.

When using a *device* streaming hardware, or You Tube TV, how seamless and fast is it to "channel surf"? When I switch to digital TV antenna, it's very distracting having to wait for the channel to change, then the program to load.
That said, my days of paying Comcast $140 / mo may soon come to an end.
