What are the openings we currently have on our football staff? A friend of mine told me that the Cedar Rapids Jefferson coach is resigning today to accept a coaching position at Iowa State. I am not sure how connected this guy is to the CRJ football coach but that is what he was told.

Not sure this is post-worthy but I found this information curious...I assume our DB position is open as well as our WR? Is that it? Would be an interesting hire based on the recent performance of that school!

For those of us unfamiliar can you elaborate a bit on this? Also, is this the head coach of CRJ? Lastly, is Jefferson the high school that CPR was rumored to be visiting last year? (Or was it the year before that? Savvy posters will remember what I'm talking about.)

Jim Womochil is the head coach at Jefferson. They have not won a game in two seasons and had a 1 - 8 record the season prior to the two winless seasons. I know in HS that records are not always representative of a coach's skills and abilities...but it would be surprising to see a coach in this situation get a shot at the next level. Obviously CPR wouldn't hire a guy unless he believes in the person's skills and talents but I would think there are a lot of people who would want an opportunity to coach at a Big XII school.

Word is that Womochil is resigning at Jefferson today.

Sounds like your friend is trying to mock ISU.

That makes sense - the Jefferson coach was so distracted by the potential college coaching job the past three years he's only been able to guide his team to 1 win since 2008.

To those who thought my friend was making fun of ISU by saying this...that entered my mind! I have the same thoughts about this scenario as the rest of you...it would certainly be a head-scratcher!

There is no way in hell we are hiring him, if we did I would be ******. Jeff has been horrible.

It is conceiveable that someone could be a fantastic position coach and a horrible head coach. For instance, the best QB coach with a horrible offensive line and no good running backs is not necessarily going to show much success in the QB stats.

If you want to coach at the Big 12 level, you better be a hell of a HS coach.

According to a few Jefferson football players Womochil has been telling members of his team he is leaving Jefferson today to start his new position at ISU next week.

A high school coach worthy of being a Big 12 coach doesn't go two years without winning. I could see maybe being .500, but not winning any games tells me you are not a good coach. That said, something is weird here because he's been there 10 years, had very little success and still has a job.

If it is true, I'm guessing it is to be the DB's GA.
Truthfully he's not qualified for anything else

I just got the news from another source. Hoping this doesn't effect our instate recruiting.
