One more post on Wes Eikmeier

just when I though I would fade in oblivion with no more Eikmeier post, I can get in one more post in about the Warrior Basketball Classic. Wes scored 38 points and lead the White team to a 98-90 victory.
The Fremont Tribune. "The latter half of the game turned into the Wes Eikmeier show. Eikmeier hit 14 free throws in the second half, and scored 27 of his 38 points after halftime. He hit three straight field goals to help the Whites tie it at 73 with 6:03 left. He was named his team’s MVP."

With the ammount of points Ike was able to put up High School I'm really hoping he will be able to contribute from day one, but I just don't see that possible sadly :unsure:
 
He looks to be a 4 year player for Ames though. No quit in his game like some people we know....
 
If he has confidence in his shot and play in general, he will see 4 years of floortime. He seems like he wants to do what it takes and nothing holds him back. Im not claiming he will be the next hero, but if he plays hard and his heart is set on sticking it to the competition, Im an instant fan.
 
One thing about Wes, with the game on the line he wants the ball in his hands. He does not lack for confidence, but he is not cockey.
 
Sounds like we have a few more people who should quit their daytime jobs and become college basketball scouts cause they know so much. Please don't get your day jobs people! Leave it up to the people who see this type of talent every day in their daily jobs to talk about the recruits...not just some fan who hears of success through stories and posts from a guy in Nebraska.

??? Who posted anything of the like? So far in here, people have expressed their excitement about the kid and what they hope to see out of him.
 
I don't get the hatred towards the person who has watched lots of Eik games (Nebrclone). All he does is provide information. Often times, it is simply fact. And yet he is repeatedly attacked. I don't get it.

There are people in every one of these threads who point out, "no matter how many points he has in high school, we wont see him doing it in college" I understand you can say this about some of the best players coming out of college. But it's just like when JP takes a risk on one of his plans working, coaches have to take chances on players coming in and contributing. Maybe it will work, maybe it won't but we can't just assume its not going to work because hes from bum **** eqypt nebraska.
 
According to this box score he was 18-18 from the line in this game. I live in Omaha and have seen him play a handful of times.

I am not a basketball expert, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. There is no disputing the fact that the kid can shoot. I went to high school with a guy who played at Drake as a Jr. College transfer. A very low level Juco at that. That kid could shoot too, and was similar in size to Wes.

His Jr year he as newcomer of the year in the Valley, and was 1st team all Valley his Sr. year. I questioned his whether his athletic ability would translate from small town Iowa to the Missouri Valley, not because he wasn't a great athlete, but becasue we all question if a kid from 2A ball in Iowa can translate to Division I. In this case his ability to shoot the basketball served him well. There are also stories of similar kids who never lived up to the hype.

Time will tell whether or not Wes has the athletic ability to compete at the highest levels of the Big XII. What we are certain of is the kid can shoot the ball from distance, something that has been sorely missing from ISU basketball since Jake Sullivan graduated.

There seem to be 2 camps when it comes to Eikmeyer. 1) He is an under the radar recruit who can fill it up and will be all world. 2) He is from a small class Nebraska school so he is overrated. Truth is most likely somewhere in between, but we are luckily to be able to watch him develop. With all the AAU and camp exposure a hedge slightly to # 1, but by all accounts he is a good solid citizen, and a bright, polite, hard working kid. .

Jake Sullivan wasn't THAT athletic, but he could shoot. I'm not claiming that he will be the next Jake Sullivan, but if he can consistently shoot the 3 he will help us tremendously.

Only time will tell I suppose

Jake & Wes have another ability in common - knocking down the pull-up mid range jumper. Not many guys are good at that shot these days, but it's a tremendous option for a top tier outside shooter. If the defender guards you too close, you can put it on the floor for a couple of steps and rack up the points without having to finish all the way to the rim.
 
Color me pumped for this kid...and I won't be disappointed if he doesn't light it up in year one. There are countless 4 and 5 star guys that don't light it up in year one but nobody notices much because he's on a team of 4 and 5 star guys. I'm looking forward to the day ISU is the type of program where the pressure is off the freshman just a tad.

Exactly. The pace/size of college basketball might be new to him, maybe he has trouble adjusting, maybe not.
I'm pretty sure that all of us hat been new to something, and had some growing pains along the way. For one, I'm glad that I haven't had people, say 15 thousand, watching each misstep, and then writing about how horrible I am.

It's going to be a lot of fun to watch this guy play as a Cyclone!
 
Eik is one i am very curious to see

I cant belive he wont be as good as Jake or Pearson. I have a good feeling about him especially if he gets up to 190.
