On why winning ASAP is key to program mometum

Just read some of that enormous Hamilton thread. Ham's issues with the coach aren't unusual.

Bottom line: winning fixes these type of problems, losing causes them to increase and snowball. Fact is some of the players don't like Greg. That's not unusual at all for players not to like their heach coach personally, not all coaches are "players coaches."

If the team is winning, usually its just fine and you don't hear a thing and everybody is happy. Players deal with it as long as they feel like the coach is giving them the best opportunity to win and the best opportunity towards a professional career. When players don't feel like the coach is giving them the best opportunity to win and don't like him personally, thats when transfers happen.

That's why the team has to do everything in its power to win as many games as possible every season. Some folks believe it is better to slowly build up a team for the future, but it just doesn't usually work in Big 12 Basketball. That's why losing even Sr's like Taylor really hurt the program beyond just that one season they will miss, thats why losing Dunson hurts the program, thats why losing good role players like Cory Johnson hurts the program, thats why not retaining hardly any of Morgan's players hurts the program.

This entire Hamilton thread is hilarious, apparently its open season on the messenger, and semi-automatic weapons are allowed. Seriously, none of this is remotely surprising at all to anyone who has been following our program. If you were gullible to buy the "I'm homesick" excuse at this point you are not the sharpest tack in the box.

McDermott is good in one on one interviews but he doesn't seem to handle the locker room talks nearly as well just based on the few videos that I've seen posted at cyclones.com. I remember the video that was posted after the Nebraska road win in which he praised the team for playing like Boozer plays all the time. Then he immediately pointed out some mistakes that Dendy made. It seems like he doesn't know how to just enjoy the moment.

Not everyone is cut out to be a head coach in the Big 12. I certainly don't have the personality for it as I am also the Type A type.

I want to win as much as the next ISU fan, but since our AD looks like he is going to retain GMac, I'm putting my money where my mouth is and not buying a season ticket next year. The program has to show me they're committed to building a competitive team, and the fact that the administration is seemingly okay with losing all the time doesn't encourage me to fill a seat at Hilton.

I have absolutely no reason to believe next year will be any better than this year. In fact, all indicators signal the opposite. I can handle a rebuilding year, but we're not rebuilding; we're making mediocrity the new ISU standard.

The way I see it, the only way to encourage JP to make a change is to donate more AND be vocal (emails, letters, etc.) to JP that you want a change.

Personally, I don't think it makes sense to make the change this year when we're just starting to catch up with the other lower tier Big XII schools from a budget standpoint. It would just cost us too much money.

However, if people were to donate more, not less., and be vocal directly to JP about their desire for a change, I believe he would make the change once the situation becomes financially feasible.

A lot of people on here want to make it out to be that JP just doesn't want to admit that he made a mistake in hiring McDermott. I don't think that's the case. I think its much more likely that he's not going to admit its a mistake until something can be done about it, without drastically setting the athletic department back for the next few years.

In short, I don't see that anything is accomplished by trying to send a message by canceling your season tickets. If you're giving them up because you're sick of watching us lose, fine. I'm not going to blame you if that's the case. But removing income from the athletic department is only going to make the situation worse, not better.

You need to coach and play for the here and now...not for next year, or two years from now, or some magical/mythical third year when everything is supposed to 'click'.

Some of us know this and we were castigated for not having 'patience' early in the GM era because it was a fait accompli that GM would have success at ISU according to some...just give him time. Unfortunately, the next thing you know, four years have gone by and you don't have a pot to pee in and the program is in shambles.

This is MBB...not FB...you can change a culture and players quickly and win quickly. I wish more Cyclone faithful would have been on the win 'ASAP' bandwagon early on with GM.

Unfortunately, I think the length of GM's contract has given him too much job security and not a strong enough sense of urgency and, unfortunately for all of us, the situation has gotten away from him as the ISU MBB HC.

I really hope that the non conf schedule is very easy so the players get some confidence going into big 12..ik we won't win more games then last year but we COULD sweep nebraska..but without knowing who is coming here, i couldn't say who we can beat
