On That Note - Mamas and Papas

I took no "brother and sister acts" to mean siblings in the same band.
I was using this part of the instructions as my guide:

"That is, family inter-generational musical successes. For purposes of this post we're limiting it to Parent-child, Grandparent-grandchild, Or Aunt/Uncle-Niece/Nephew."

Siblings aren't inter-generational. But hey, I have frequently bent the rules in these threads so knock yourself out.

It continues to amuse me that D**k is auto-censored on CF. If I didn't know about that quirk, I would've interpreted your comment as "F**k Van Dyke's brother."
Exactly. I figured that quirk was so well known that I didn't need to bother putting '(Richard)' next to the starred out word.

Dude has two parts of his name that could potentially be on the naughty list.

Shirley Jones was on the early 1970s television show The Partridge Family with her stepson, David Cassidy — about the same time other teen heartthrobs included the Jackson Five and the Osmond Brothers. I guess The Partridge Family was fictional but based on a real family singing group. David wouldn’t have had to sing, but I read somewhere he took his part seriously, worked at it, that he wanted perform the music himself, and do it well. This was probably their best known song:

Not sure how many today would know how popular he was, so here is a bit from David Cassidy’s Wikipedia page: . . . The show proved popular, but the fame took its toll on Cassidy. In the midst of his rise to fame, Cassidy felt stifled by the show and trapped by the mass hysteria surrounding his every move.[11]:92–95 . . . https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Cassidy

Actress Susan Dey would later play an an attorney on the TV series LA Law.

Shirley Jones earlier played Marian the Librarian, in 1962, in the film adaptation of the the hit Broadway show The Music Man. This was Iowa-native Meredith Willson’s ode to his hometown of Mason City (“River City”). Willson also wrote a pep song for ISU (For I For S) and the official fight song for UI. https://archive.inside.iastate.edu/2004/0116/willson.shtml

Below are clips from The Music Man. The first is a classic, of con artist/salesman Harold Hill, but Shirley Jones comes into the picture at the end (the music teacher). In one of their earlier works, The Beatles did a cover of the last one, Till There was You, linked here at the end.

Beatles 1963

Shirley was also Laurey in the 1955 film version of Oklahoma!

You beat me to it. I was going to do these two, and pick those exact two songs. Nice work!

Sammy Hagar and one of the original Van Halen members are touring with Jason Bonham. I'm no drumming expert but supposedly he is very good. I heard them live on Howard Stern a few weeks ago. I'm not a huge Van Halen fan but I have to say I still really enjoyed it.

Yeah, I listened to that, too. Good interview.

Another website I used to frequent starred both of them, so it became **** Van ****.

And add to all that her good looks, which were likely downplayed on purpose in the Donna Reed Show. I don't think I've ever seen Coach.

Coach was amazing show and that's where I knew her from. For people that watched coach Craig T Nelson was on Dax Shepherd's podcast and while on camera never showed Craig said he had major issues with producer Barry Kemp and some of the writers.

Golly, I wonder how Dax Shepard knows Nelson.

;)

Linda Davis who was Reba's backup singer is the mother of Lady Antebellum's Hillary Scott

I know this one has already been mentioned but when I think of Hank Williams Sr. and J this video was pretty cool where they made it look like he was singing with his dad

Also need to mention Hank III too:

This is the first one I thought of but then even I didn't know then how neat this one would be. This is Des Moines' own Peggy Lou Synder when she was going by the name Harriet Hilliard obviously before she used her most famous name. It appears to me (from Wikipedia) that she is the real fount of talent in the family:

and Eric her son:

I had Ozzie in there (as a band leader, not a vocalist). I didn't realize Harriet was a singer!

I knew she was a singer from listening to old time radio shows. She was known as Harriet Hilliard (Hilliard was her dad's middle name). What I didn't know was that she was born in Des Moines, started a acting and singing so young, was in so many movies, appreciated good jokes and drink. She did have a short marriage that got annulled before she married Ozzie but it looks like she was a real role model just like she portrayed on the tv show.
