OLED TV worth it?

At the price points of some of the OLEDs though, depending on the setup you also kind of have to ask whether you'd benefit more from a size increase.

I ended up opting to go with an 85" screen instead of upgrading my 65" LED to a 65" OLED.

That's exactly what I want to do to justify getting a new TV. Want to move up to a 77" but I don't think I can make it work in my living room. I have 2 windows that my 65" fits in between but the 77" will cover half of both windows.

That's actually good for your contrast levels though (jimlad but not really)

Sony AG8, so a couple of years old now, picture is almost better than real life to my less than 20/20 eyes, if the source matches its capabilities. That seems like the only reason not to get one yet, if your usual content source can't at least deliver well enough for quality up scaling. And they're more fragile, might not be the best choice for some environments.

All of you with the LGs, how do you like the remote interface? My dad has an LG and I can’t stand it. Granted, I don’t use it every day, but it isn’t user friendly in my opinion.

Not crazy about it. It's nice that it has the app buttons for direct access to Netflix, Disney+, Hulu and YouTube. But the cursor/scroll wheel thing and using it like a wireless mouse is weird. I do like that it's a Bluetooth remote so it works without line-of-sight to an IR sensor on the TV. Only about 50% of the "universal" features work for controlling our cable box. And some of those don't work consistently.

I think mine is called a magic remote. Hated it at first, I came from a Logitech Harmony but love it now. I actually like that it acts like a mouse.

I don't use it. I use ARC so I'm able to use my very simple Google CHromecast remote to do everything. Before ARC, I used a Harmony remote. The only time I have to pick up the LG remote is if there is some kind of software update on the LG TV, which is rare.

Windows are overrated.

The remote is fine. It does it’s job. Nothing to loathe or be wowed about.

I know what you mean about the bloom. I've also noticed that sports programming has improved so much that on fast moving close ups of plays in football games I get what I call a "picket fence effect" in the crowd in the background. Kind of annoying.
I don't know what that is but I think I have a pretty good idea...

LG is releasing some kind of EX panel too. I’d let people with money to burn be the Guinea Pigs on these, personally
Hopefully it will reduce the cost on existing OLEDs. Would hate to spend $2k on a large format OLED today and then in a year they are substantially cheaper.

Samsung showcased a new type of OLED panel at CES this year that is supposed to be better than existing panels by LG/Sony. If you can wait I'd see what those being released do for pricing.

Thought about waiting until later in the year but saw this article and it's making me think I may need to pull the trigger.

Makes it sound like 2021 models won't be any cheaper after the Super Bowl until the fall...and then you may have trouble finding them because the 2022 models will be out.

I went cheap and got a QLED just before the pandemic.. Every time I turn on the TV, I regret not getting the OLED... We removed our TV upstairs and put up a family portrait up so upstairs is for reading, playing with kids or socializing over being a zombie to the TV every day. Which makes not having an OLED for downstairs 1000x worse...

If it's in your budget, go for the OLED.

wtf, worst trade ever.

I've enjoyed it actually. It was mostly so the kiddos don't grow up with a TV always on, hoping to reduce their screen time. There are multiple day stretches were the kiddos have NO TV time at all.

I still get down most nights after they go to bed to watch some sports though.
