OL Jacob Gannon has left the ISU program

Interviewer: "Ok, Jacob, when your back was up against the wall and then team was counting on you, how did you respond?"

Well if he's anything like the majority of people who are being interviewed, he'll just lie anyways. Or at least cherry-pick. I doubt he'll sit there and think a while then say "Well, my senior year of football at Iowa State I bailed".
 
He met a commitment of playing football four years in a row. He met a commitment of doing well in school. I'm sure there are a lot of other commitments in his life he met. So you would actually not hire him even if he was the best candidate for quitting a commitment for being burnt out, even though that commitment is nothing like the commitment's he'll do in the future?

I don't think that either Incyte or I are saying we wouldn't hire him. I know in my case, I would ask him about it to see what kind of answer he has. The right answer to that question would probably seal the deal on hiring him. As the rest of you have commented, he has put in four years playing BCS-level football while working towards a degree and that's still an accomplishment.

A pretty good answer for a job interview related to an IT career would be that he was more committed to an IT career than football at that point. This won't affect his opportunities at all.
 
Im more worried how soft our oline has proven to be. We have had several good coaches there with REALLY poor success. Starting to look less of a coaching issue, vs who we have recruited this year.

Going back to the Chizik era, its hard to believe how far we have fallen on the oline.

(First day on the job). Employee: Graduate of ISU? Guess you played football? Ya say your name's Gannon? Name sounds familiar.
 
If it does, he's only missing out on a terrible work environment, and somebody better will hire him.

I don't know. 100% insurance premiums for singles if you work for us. Pretty tempting if you've got some lingering football injuries . . .

If you have ever had the responsibility to hire people in the business world, you would understand that this situation is one that would require investigation before hiring this individual, period. Doesn't mean you don't hire him, but if he waffles on his explanation and reasoning, you truly don't hire him.
 
When teams fall apart and there is trouble in the ranks, doesn't this usually point to weak leaders on the team (more so than coaches)? I fear that this team does not have strong, natural leaders on it. If they did, whatever Gannon was/is going through, he'd be able to lean on this team leaders to get him through it.

Another theory - our OL has not been consistent for a some time now. We may finally have the coaches in place to straighten that out and not put up with poor play/technique that has been allowed too often in the past. Maybe under different circumstances (i.e....the present offensive coaches) , Gannon would have been weeded out earlier.

It really makes one realize how valuable KO, Hicks, and Farniok are. When the sum of 5 minus 1 or 2 of those guys is equal to 0 (as in points) it's a pretty sad reflection of coaching or ability or both.

Only people in central would know who he is or care. This is a non issue. If he's smart and hard working it doesn't matter.

Do you think he's going to put on his resume that he quit after the first game of his redshirt senior year?
