That's true to an extent. However, a 4-8 team with a close knit group of guys and good leadership is vastly different than a 4-8 team with players quitting the team. One of those is going up, one is going down. Yes, it comes down to W's and L's, but this is one of those things that may push some people over the edge.

I agree with you that there is certainly a difference between the teams in your two examples. However, at this point in his tenure I guess my point is the decision to keep him or let him go is ultimately going to come down to his ability to win football games. If he is let go it will be because he couldn't convert wins. No one will know for quite some time whether or not he lost the team for sure.

I've heard things, and it sounds like others have as well, but as long as Rhoads is the coach a lot of people are going to refuse to believe them. I guess that's what I meant by saying the speculation doesn't really matter. There's a lot of people involved in a football program. One person may talk to a player who likes Rhoads and one person may talk to one who says they hate him. That doesn't mean either person is wrong. It just means when there's as many people involved in the program as there is then there is going to be a wide variety of opinions, and everyone is going to argue with each other about it.

Once the end result is more clear people will get back on the same page. Unfortunately, what we do know is that it's going to be an uphill battle for the team to win games this year, and that isn't going to bode well for CPR.

One if the coolest things you can tell someone when you are in your 30s is "yeah I played div1 college football" I dont think that I walked away after the first game of my senior year would be something I would share though.

Remember the Bates. Needed help at wide receiver and he left.

Pretty sure our donations, season tickets do more. Not trying to downplay players sacrifices, but without us, where is that scholarship, etc. coming from?

Dude...no. I understand fans want to feel like they're helping the team with their monetary contributions, which they are, but the players are hands down the most important part of any team and it's not even close.

If his heart isn't in it then let him go. You have no idea what his life is like, or what it's like to make this decision. Everyone can say he is a coward, but it takes far more courage to do what is right for yourself than to sacrifice it in secrecy just to save face.

Hey Section... do you think Barta should have let Ferentz go a few years ago when they went 4-8 and there were also rumblings of players not happy with him.... especially with the rhabdo scandal where some players ended up in the hospital and Ferentz was too busy out recruiting to come back to IC?

Things were not all that rosy a few years back in IC for Ferentz either. A LOT of Hawk fans were calling for KF's head. Was it a good decision to keep him or not?

Loss after loss after loss after loss...it starts to wear on you. Look what it's done to a lot of the fanatics lately. I wish the kid the best of luck on his future endevours. Let's hope he doesn't quit on those.

It isn't so much that Rhoads is still the coach, but that I don't know you personally, I don't know who your sources are, and (as far as I'm aware) you won't even share what you've heard, so I see no reason to accept your input. I'm not discounting anything out of hand, and maybe your info is legit, but to act like this is all about loyalty to the current coach just isn't true, at least in my case.

He hasn't heard anything of any substance. Just internet rumors and such. I guarantee you.

He just likes to come over here and rip on everything ISU at every whiff of bad news. He's a Hawk, that's what they do.

The oost I was referring to was talking about program, not the actual team... Of course he does more for the team, but for the program in general, without the fans, there is no program for him to play on here.

So Gannon quits on the team. IMO, he kind of quit last Saturday against NDSU and just made a formal announcement now. Campos will now get his shot and will learn a lot in playing this year.

Couple of points, It was just over 1 season ago (2012) when Iowa went 4-8. But your point is taken.

With Ferentz, he had the track record of 4 Top 10 finishes, 2 conference titles and 2 BCS bowl games to fall back on. Iowa would have been hammered nationally for jettisoning Ferentz after 4-8. If 4-8 was followed up by 3-9 or 4-8 in 2013, then we'd probably be talking about 2014 as the final stand.

This particular issue (and other off-field ones) won't make or break Rhoads in and of itself. But the off-field stuff becomes more important when the winning isn't there.

Deanvogs of all people told him something on a message board something he was told. I'll let you guess how believable that info is

Once I heard the news I took the rest of the day off and stripped down to my grungies and wolfed down dots and twizzlers while watching Intervention on A&E all afternoon. ....Now I need to get dressed and run to Kmart to get a Papa roach cd..#Rhoads
