Oklahoma Contemplating Leaving Big XII

I will say this: if we get left out of this greed machine then there will unfortunately be a lot of people who don't watch college football anymore. I will still buy tickets and support ISU just the same, Iowa State is my second love and my passion right behind my family. But no more watching Gameday, CFB Live, games on tv, I might even stop buying the NCAA football games and switch to Madden. I really hope we have fans that will not make the university suffer for the actions of our greed filled society. This is why other nations hate us.

+1

To be honest I couldn't even watch the replay of the BSU/GA game because it was so contrived and commercialized - as soon as I saw the uni's I wasn't even sure who was playing - if I'm going to watch pro football I will watch pro football.

I'm with you. I will still support ISU but am really turned off of "college" sports as a whole right now. If I want to watch professional teams then I'll watch my NFL Bears.

ESPN, corporate America, and especially the t-shirt fans have officially ruined the game. I don't think most of them even realize or care that there is a university connected to their team. Iowa and Nebbie fanbases are prime examples of this. I don't know what could fix all of this short of government intervention. And the last thing I want is the government involved.

I couldn't bring myself to give a crap about any games this weekend. The only one I watched on TV was Baylor/TCU. I love football and it feels like it is being hijacked. Not to sound like a little girl, but I'm truly heartbroken by what is happening.

If Iowa State gets left in the cold, and I lose interest in college football I don't know what I would do. I'm a Vikings fan so it looks like my only option is disappointment. I guess I could watch MLB through October, then watch Hockey until baseball season again.

I will say that I am becoming less of a fan of ESPN (or TV networks in general) as this realignment crap continues.

Re: Oklahoma

Dear ISU,

It's time for you to pull your own weight.

Sincerely,

Oklahoma
probably means let's sue David Boren for being a two sided switcheroo when he had the reigns. It means a $200M lawsuit against Larry Scott for meddling. Maybe it is time to think along the injunction lines. If our potential fees are halved in the BE, we have monetarily been harmed.

Not in the grand scheme of things. That's why no one cares what happens to ISU and Baylor. We will hardly be a blip on the ESPN radar.

IF we do get left out the first year..The SEC, Big10 or ACC is just going to poach more teams from the Big East anyway. . So it will be a mega conference that will have the best tv Teams plucked away eventually anyway. So we would probably be brought in once Pitt or Rutgers left.
IF ISU doesn't make the BEast then it will go to the Mountain West with Baylor I bet. Then we HAVE to hope for 18 team expansion of conferences or that could be our home for good.

Mountain West Executive Board Call Has Realignment High On Its Agenda

In the end of all of this the teams that the Mountain West has a legit shot at grabbing are Baylor and Iowa State and neither really do much for me and probably no Mountain West fans either, but if a title game is worth upwards of $10 million then go after those two schools. Also, if 14- or 16-team leagues are the norm adding Baylor could be a key grab if the Mountain West wants to add schools in Texas, specifically Houston.

You know the MW commis needs to shut his piehole and do some research. His conference avg attendance was 34,464 last year. So the attendace leader in the MW is probably TCU with an avg 42,466 followed by maybe AF at 40,093. ISU's avg attendance last year was 45,395 and BU's attendance was 40,043. So ISU would lead their conf in attendance and BU would be in the top two or three.

Now for basketball - MW avg was 8,176 with largest NM with 13,595 and ISU with 12,491 and BU with 7,457. So ISU would be second in attendance and BU would easily be in the top half.

Also, all those avg numbers for the MW include BYU and TCU that both were top in the conf in attendance for football and BYU for basketball.

What he should have said is the MW doesn't really do much for ISU and BU but we would love to have them.

The original Pac-8 schools want this expansion so they can dump CU, UTAH, Arizona, and Arizona State in with the other "new" schools and resume scheduling similar to the orginal conference. So basically they get the Big 12 South with Arizona, Arizona State, CU and Utah.

This is so depressing.

First the Big East says they might be interested in KU, KSU, and Mizzou.... and then the Mountain West says they aren't sure if they'd even be interested in ISU either.

Seriously folks, this isn't going well at all. It seems that we provide NOTHING to any conference.

Our best hope might just be that neither the Big East or MWC wants us, and then the Big 10 decides that they need to go to 16, so they take us for some unknown reason?

But if we aren't at least in the Big East after all of this, I will pretty much lose all interest in college athletics period.

It's interesting that the Big 10 avoids ISU like the plague since they don't want two schoools in a low population state but the Big East wants both KU and K State leaving ISU out if they take Mizzou.

Maybe KU wants to avoid the fight and if the BE will take KSU that is fine with them and maybe the BE also wants to avoid the fight so easier to invite both. It does seem contradictary to what is driving this.

A little off topic: So UT will give up LHN for the PAC# but won't to save the Big 12 - why?

Clone Zone seems to have a lot of commercials also.

Seems to me it is beyond UT control at this moment as David Boren roars off to the west.

I swear if we are the only ones left out, I'll never watch college sports again.

Well if the Pac12 goes to 16 it could be an arms race to get to sixteen and the Big East might be the next to act if they want to survive and could probably also take isu, Baylor and maybe a Houston or UCF. One big game of musical chairs. Helluva way to determine the future of athletic programs. Only hope I really have is that 4 super conference and resulting playoffs would mean approximately half of the current FBS teams will be completely shut out of a title chance and maybe have enough political clout to get something done.

What if UT publicly offered to drop the LHN & start promoting a conf network - what would happen? Would AtM & OU stop all this and come back or would they still go? I know it would never happen but would be interesting.
