My guess would be that Dave is either in the military or a missionary in dangerous area.
This would be less weird if it weren't for the fact that you can find Dave commenting on MBB threads over the past couple weeks. For instance, Dave commented on the thread started by CW about Odunsi committing. Had he actually clicked on the link in the first post to CW's blog he'd have seen it both mentions Coach Hoiberg frequently and how McD left for Creighton.
For Pete's sake, he even commented on the thread about JP on Marty's show. That thread was pretty much all about what JP said regarding how McD had failed!
this thread ought to tell you something about this site. he went HERE first, I mean he could have just gone to Cyclones.com and figured it out from the tons of Hoiberg on the sight, but CF it is. funny thread but totally understandable if he's "off the grid" so to speak. Just a classic insight into our society today, 25 years ago it may have taken a lil time for the whole fanbase to know the basketball teams HC.
On somewhat related sort of note I was out with some friends who are self proclaimed HUGE hawk fans and 3 of the 4 didn't know their basketball coach's name and these are people with who aren't off the grid and have newspaper access/internet access/cell phones. The 4th one also took quite some time to answer his name, but didn't even say it correctly.

Those are just typical Hawk fans. They don't care about basketball.
25 years ago EVERYONE read the newspaper though. People don't do that anymore. The fan base would have known just because it would have been in the paper.

Epic is way over used. Dinosaurs were epic. This thread, albeit funny, is not epic.
So basically we have three returning scholarship players (DG, JVB, and Scotty) returning for the basketball team next year. CPR is going after a bunch of highly rated recruits. And the Big 12 goes to the the ******* on Friday at 5 P.M.
No, if he was working on getting a plane to take off on a treadmill in that undisclosed location then, only then, would this thread go epic.
Even if Dave is a couple months behind on the news, he is still more current than most U of I fans when it comes to BBall.
