***Official why don't we have a Midnight Madness thread***

I would drive from crapids for a midnight madness if it was free.

I went to Late Night at the Phog this year and they had to turn people away at the gate. If KU can get 16,300 for a scrimmage/kick-off event, I'm sure ISU could at least get 7k. Events like the Barry Stevens Charity game drew decently well and that was during the summer and a bad stretch of basketball.

I think MM is stupid and I wouldn't go to it.

I think a lot of reasonable people in positions of power would agree with you. However, 17 year old talent certainly overrides what you or I want, and we're seeing more and more that coaches are having to modify behavior to pander to this generation's tendencies (tw@tter, handlers, etc.).

Let's also not forget, we're no Iowa - we don't always need to do things the "right way" :v_SPIN:

I don't care if we have Midnight Madness or not. If Fred wants it, I'm sure he could get it. And if he doesn't, I don't care.

But we would draw way more than 1000 to it. Anyone who attended any of the CCL games this year realizes that there is really, really high demand for basketball right now at Iowa State.

Bingo. The Sunday I went there was standing room only.

Meh. I don't think it would be as wildly popular as some think. Probably 5k attendance or so. Somewhat indifferent on the idea.

Pretty sure Iowa State had a Midnight Madness back in the Johnny Orr days. I vaguely remember going to one growing up, but I firmly remember being jealous of a friend of mine who went every year. What stands out in my mind was seeing Stevie Johnson win the Slam Dunk Contest... So maybe that was a Tim Floyd year that I went...

ISU had the "Shootout" or "Tip-Off" event. Always after a home football game in late October. And in those years, the home games were at 1:00, so you knew the hoops event would start at 5:00 or so. The event wasn't operated by ISU, though. The Ames/Story County Cyclone Club (back when there were such sub-groups) ran it. Over the years they added a live auction, which killed the momentum. Then they trotted out "celebrity" emcees, which made it worse. (Van and Bonnie from WHO radio? Really?!?)

I'm glad that event, in that format, is gone.

Because (as discussed every time someone gets in trouble) nothing good happens after midnight or 1 a.m. or 2 a.m. or something like that.

I know from sources that the athletic department is afraid nobody would show up. I agree. I know we're all go-hard passionate fans here on CF, but not everyone can make it to a midnight basketball practice. I personally would love a midnight madness, but I just don't see it happening in the immediate future.

They don't actually have these things at Midnight any more, people. They can be started at any time of day and on any day of the week after the first allowable date.

If UF could pack Midnight Madness before their Final Four years when Lon Kruger first showed up then I can't imagine we couldn't get at least 5k. I think it would be PACKEd.

I'll contact the AD. Thanks for the info.

I just hope smoke on the water would be played at least once though.
