Official Utah Utes Welcome Thread

Their 4 losses were to the top 4 in conference who finished in the top 20. 3 of the 4 on the road. With all the injuries they salvaged it into a pretty decent season. I’m not ready to throw dirt on Utah’s grave yet. They will be and should the preseason favorites next year. We’ll see how they stack up.

Arizona handled them so easy they might have beat them at 100% even if Utah got to add some extra star players from other teams. Arizona is a big 12 team now. That alone means we should all laugh at their 10-0 every year prediction.

Does anyone realize that Utah was quite possibly the most injury riddled team in America this year? They were playing 3rd and some 4th stringers in multiple positions on both sides of the ball majority of the season. Yet they still finished with a better record than us at 8-4. Plus the PAC 12 was much better at the top that the Big 12 was.
Utah was 5-4 in the PAC. ISU was 6-3 and got a very unfavorable draw with the unbalanced schedule, as the teams they missed on the schedule went 18-27 in league play. Put it this way. To get an “average” unbalanced schedule, ISU would’ve swapped out a 7-2 opponent for a 3-6 team. That’s pretty crazy.

The two leagues were about identical in strength. So ISU had a better record, their bad draw with the unbalanced schedule likely cost them a game, so ISU had a better conference season than Utah.

I wasn’t really trying to say had a better conference season than us tbh, just that they were playing their back ups back ups for most of the conference season and still had a pretty decent season.

Fwiw, Iowa state beat two teams that went bowling (ksu,Osu) Utah beat 3 (USC,cal,UCLA) they didn’t lose to a g5 team, while they beat Baylor and Florida in the non con. Their only conference losses were to top 20 teams with 3 being on the road. Most power ranking have Utah and Iowa state within 2-3 spots from each other. So it’s all kind of moot point.

I don’t really care who wants to claim having a better season but people are saying they are going to come to big 12 and get slapped around which they won’t as long as whittingham is there.

They also aren’t going to go 9-0 either but I believe they will be preseason favorites.

I think the PAC was grossly over-rated this year.

responding to the title alone, i must say i dislike utah, and would trade them for Pitt, louisville, vt, nc state, and maybe even duke.

Why?

Because when they stole the New Orleans Jazz NBA team, they kept the nickname Jazz, even though there is no jazz in Utah. rather than thinking up their own name they just kept ours.

When New Orleans stole the Charlotte Hornets, we changed the name hornet--which has no significance to New Orleans, to pelicans, the state bird.

When I think of Utah i think of dull people too unoriginal to think up a decent name for their team. So if utah wants to go to the acc or mw, good luck to them.. they wont be missed.

You can go through life being humble, or you can go through life being humbled. Utah fans choose the latter.

I can’t help wondering if some of the Pac12 hype was due to guilt in their demise, as well as bolstering the “new“ big10 teams.
Multiple factors.
1. USC was clearly gonna be a title contender w Caleb and Lincoln! So many points! USC Is back baby!
And then it all fell apart but that means the teams above them must be good right?
2. Oregon State was recognized as being actually good. But since they are just Oregon STATE who is a nobody then actual Oregon, Washington, Utah, and of course USC must be much better! Wow is Oregon STATE is top 25, then those teams must all be top 10, right?!?
3. Deion! Did you know Deion beat TCU in week 1?!? PAC is so good now that Deion is there! Resurgence! Holy cow, Colorado must be good! Wonder what bowl game they are going to? Hey did we mention Deion?!!

In fairness, i do think the PAC was good this year. They had a bunch of legit good top 25 teams, and a couple CFP contenders, though i dont expect Wash to win the thing. Frankly, they were a lot like the Big12 has been the past few years.

There are like 20 posts above mine talking about this. I’m agreeing with them. You want to hypocrite, then hypocrite. Either bowl games don’t matter or they do, just pick a lane, I don’t care which one.
We are in the fast lane. Our bowl is the only one that matters.

Fast lane to Liberty Bowl victory!

I do not wish to stomp on the PAC12 grave here, but Colorado was/is in what bowl again? Is it the Leadville Bowl or the Me Bowl? I forget.

These past few years, Utah has benefitted from a historically down USC and average Oregon & Washington programs. The rest of the PAC has stunk.

All Utah can hang its hat on is losing its last 2 Rose Bowls. They beat a terrible Florida team this year, whoop-de-do.

Kyle Whittingham is a great coach and they’ll build him a statue. Maybe they’ll be a leader in the new XII. But they’re way off base if they think they’re in a 10 win per year stepping stone to the B1G.

Keeping a name after a team moves is not terribly uncommon. Did you ever wonder why LA calls their team "The Lakers"? They started in Minnesota. The Rams and Colts kept their names as well after moving Cities
