I figured I would raise this question here and hopefully get the answer without starting a new thread. Anyway, I will be in Chicago the weekend of July 7-9 and am looking for a spot to watch the first CONCACAF Gold Cup match v Panama. Any recommendations on good bars to watch the match?

I have no idea if Gonzalez will ever become the first choice keeper for the US, but just for tonight I'm going to dream about a 26-year old Jesse Gonzalez playing out of his mind in goal as the US beats Mexico in the Azteca in the 2021 Hex.
Gold Cup warm up tomorrow (Saturday) with a friendly against Ghana at 3:45 pm central on ESPN. Ghana has brought a pretty strong version of their squad. It will be interesting to see how our B-team looks against them.

So if this is supposed to be a warm up game, why would the US play their B-team? It seems you'd want the squad that will be playing in the Gold Cup.

While you are correct, we are sending our 'B' side for the gold cup to allow the top tier 'A' teamers rest/recover/ and not risk injury. This also allows the coaching staff an opportunity to look at other players who can help fill in the back end of our 'world cup' roster. Hope that makes sense.

To me, I'd rather make sure we have the A-team ready to go to ensure we are going to Russia next summer.

Honestly, we are playing Nicaragua, Martinique, and Panama in the group stage. There's not much to be learned about our top 11 in playing those games. Our European based players need a break at some point In the calendar and asking them to play in the Gold Cup this year is a bit much. It's crazy to think about, but preseason for European clubs isn't all that far away.
I also think using this as an audition for the fringe guys can be beneficial. There's just no room to experiment in the Hex this cycle since we crapped the bed at the start. So using these games to see if a couple guys play their way into the top 23 is good for depth.
