Official Thursday Night Whiskey Thread

I scored a really good store pick single barrel of Jeffersons a few weeks back. Usually Jeffersons doesn't have enough character for me but this guy at 100 proof is fantastic. I'm glad I gave them another shot.

My latest go-to is the Boulivardier with one modification, which is a bar spoon of anise simple syrup. This is a very complex cocktail that you sip and savor...and it just gets better as the cube melts.

2 oz burbon
1/2 oz campari
1/2 oz sweet vermouth
1 bar spoon Royal Rose Anise Simple Syrup
Stir with ice and strain over large ice cube
Traverse City Premium Cocktail Cherries (2)

The more normal ratio for a boulevardier is 1oz booze to 1 oz campari to 1 oz sweet vermouth. I prefer it a little more boozy and less bitter.

I agree, Jefferson’s is pretty blah for me and not worth the asp usually. I tried their Ocean’s multiple of times and was not impressed.

I’ll look for their 100 proof.

One of my absolute favorites right now in Benchmark Full Proof. Can be somewhat hard to find but is reasonably priced, high proof and is really delicious.

That's why I like store pick singles so much. They're not always great but some of the best bottles I've had have been store pick.

It's tough for me to justify $90+ for one of their bottles. I did try a wheated bourbon of one of their ocean voyages, and if I stumble across one of those bottles in the wild, I might be tempted to buy it...but that's it. Usually I can be happy with something much cheaper.

A Weller 12 is pretty high on my list, and I hope to grab one when their typical allocation comes back around. I have a Special Reserve and a CYPB, but need the 107, Full Proof and 12.

My brother-in-law is a bourbon aficionado, and gave me the 107. He said his favorite all-time bottle is Weller 12, but I think 107 was in his top 5. He's more into wine now, but says he will not pass up a bottle of Weller 12 at retail if he ever finds one even though he is not buying bourbon any longer.

I can attest it's really, really good. The 107 is almost as good! I'm hoping to get a bottle of the lineup as well. So tasty.
