No, for me there has to be a score kept in a defined period of time or innings, or a timed event (track, cross country). Not just a finish, per se. IMO. I know, that messes with "field", in track & field.
I would put NASCAR with Equestrian. There's a piece of equipment involved.
Not sure if it's been mentioned but what the hell happened to Hogue this year? Where was the beast that played in last years NCAA tourney?
I've settled down a little bit but I think this was perhaps Hoibergs worst personnel management game of the year. I have been perplexed by the minutes of Thomas and Nader all year and at times they have proven me to be wrong. We couldn't rebound. Ok, but when we see that we aren't rebounding, shouldn't we maybe have BDJ in the game seeing as he is probably our second best rebounder? Maybe there was something behind the scenes but like I have said numerous times, he can defend and rebound like no other person on the perimeter. Nader is all over the place and Thomas just isn't going to cut it there. I know we were struggling to score and I know Thomas was hitting shots, but we needed to shore up the boards without Hogue and Niang in the game and we had a poor lineup for doing that for a lot of the time.
The other thing that has been driving me nuts in Niang. It's been like this for three years and I suppose expecting change is maybe too much but the guy doesn't take as much pride as someone in his position needs to. He is constantly out of position and beaten to the ball. I know offensively he is a great player but he's such a liability defensively and on the boards that I think whoever the three is has to be a guy who can shore that up.
Blaming this on defense and rebounding seems misguided as our offensive output was crap but Hoiberg talked about rebounding himself. You can't allow that kind of Oreb rate and expect to win games in March. I don't know, just listening to these guys talk about how shocked they are tells me maybe they didn't think UAB could beat them and maybe didn't take them seriously. Of course, I'm a bit overreactive now so maybe all of this is bunk but all of these things have bothered me all year.

This was another issue. I felt that Hogue was underutilized offensively. He has some skill with the ball, especially in the mid post. Never did we get him the ball. He was essentially a guy that kept a guy on the perimeter and that's not what he was built for. McKay ate some of his rebounds and I don't really know what happened there except he was probably playing outside a lot more due to McKay and Niang being interior guys. With limited shooters, I just felt like we could have utilized him a bit more all year.
He was on the perimeter forced to play a much different role after McKay came in. The new role obviously did not fit him like last year's did.
I think its a case of having a guy last year with exactly the right set up playing out of his mind. He wasn't bad this year, only worse in comparison to what he did last year.

And to add to that, Naz Long too. He was practically automatic when left open all of last season and this year up until January.
At the beginning of this season there isn't another guy I would've wanted to take a clutch shot like that today. Turns out he was just brick city for the entire 2nd half of the season
Just watched that part again. Looked to me like he was saying this is bulls*** and if I don't get in I'm out of here. The look on Jameels face said a lot.
Niang worked hard on defense during the KU game last Saturday. He can do it, but it just wasn't there today, and other times this year as well. It's indicative of the bigger team problem of not consistently putting out full effort and not coming ready to play from first tip.
Hoiberg seems to have a stubborn streak when it comes to offense/defense. He won't sacrifice offense to stop defensive bleeding. Sometimes that has to be done, and you need to be prepared when it is requried. IMO, Daniel Edozie has the physical build/skills that could have been developed into a player who could come in and break up an offensive rebounding party like UAB had today. But he couldn't get on the floor this year because he lacks offense.
You can't score when you can't get the ball away from the other team.
My biggest disappoint is CFH coaching today and him not able to get this teams attention at any point during the game. Its almost like he didn't know how to handle the D played by UAB and his refusal to use timeouts.
