It felt like the tournament had barely even started since we were the second game done. At least if we had played tomorrow we would have gotten to see an entire day of basketball and upsets before our game. Now we were so excited for the tournament to start, and then it was just over.

I saw Morris in person in Michigan last year, tip my hat to the kid, nice player for sure
3 Years Ago: We ran into Kentucky when they had Anthony Davis. Lost by double digits but Kentucky was absolutely on fire. Royce White kept us in the games until the last few minutes. Far from a choke job.
2 Years Ago: Got absolute hosed on a Aaron Craft charge call. He blatantly slid underneath the ISU offensive player when going up for the layup. They gave Craft the charge, ref was too scared to call an and 1 foul on OSU which would have buried them in the game with only 30 or so seconds left. So he opted to give OSU a chance and Craft hit a buzzer beater. Worst call I have seen to this day. Complete hose job. If the ref makes the correct call, we make a deep run most likely with the way the tourney was set up at the time.
1 Year Ago: Lose a good game to UCONN. Niang breaks his foot on the last play of the game in ISU's previous game. With Niang we had the talent to easily beat UCONN and could have gone on to win it all.

This. Talk of FF level depth is way too premature. Talk of NBA is way too premature. I've said it over and over, but CFH gets more out of the talent he has than any coach in the country IMHO. They have to play with a pretty thin margin for error. This team has had some troubling weaknesses all year and today they were seriously exposed. Its disappointing for sure but not completely suprising.
******, but this one isn't near as hard as Hampton. Guess going through it once takes the sting out next time. Sorry to see an awesome season end so fast but onto next November.

The warning signs were there. HOIBALL is spreading the floor and distributing the ball. The team is successful when there are assisted baskets.
Even though they won the B12 tourney they got out of what they did to be successful. They averaged only 10 assists a game in that span. Usually Hoiberg teams average around 18. Too much one on one actions.
Time to go hibernating. Now I know how Larry Eustachy felt and why he said what he said to the team after the Hampton loss. I kinda feel that way now with this team.

Funny, I think what prompted those 'wake up call' comments were things like rebounding, hustle, getting after people on D, etc. I thought the D at times looked good today, and this year. But there plenty of loose balls that UAB was on the ground for, and ISU's players were still standing.
I'll get hosed for this (again), and this singular incident/example wasn't the cause of the loss, but doing something like taking the time to blow kisses to the crowd instead of hustling back on D, no matter the opponent or score, may imply an early bad habit of not being completely zoned in at all times...and this team had a bad habit of not being honed in at all times. I really think those kinds of things can catch up with a team on days like today.
Damn you're so right. Felt like the tourney had hardly begun and my weekend has already been ruined. I guess I'll mainly watch NCAA hockey playoffs now instead.
That UCLA/SMU ending is going to be a bigger talking point nationally and on the coverage than our game I think thankfully. I don't mind the loss that much, but the constant regurgitation was going to get to me.
If you think this team was all Hoosiers taking 2nd place in the big 12 and having a legit shot at taking the regular season 'ship. You're smoking some good stuff. We had the talent for a deep run.

It's nice to have a nifty offensive scheme, and exciting to watch. But a team can't play offense without the ball. Last year during the off-season, Hoiberg often mentioned the need for improving at defense and rebounding. Maybe this game will be the impetus to actually make an improvement in rebounding. It's been mediocre for three years now.
As a number of posters have pointed out, the rebounding fundamentals are just plain missing, or if not missing, not being exercised consistently during the game. It was apparent all season, but nothing was done about it. Perhaps the defensive rebounding percentage stat that was always trotted out whenever the rebounding issues were discussed here created an illusion that the problem wasn't there. The Big 12 was down as far as interior play this year, so that may have also masked the problem. However, the rebounding problem was on display for all to see today.
If Hoiberg doesn't know how to fix it, he needs to hire a coach who can. It also seems that there are some game preparation and player focus issues facing the coaches as well.

I feel sick....but, we all know this year we've lacke consistency...great record and finished strong, but gotta get to the point we beat teams we are supposed to. As I told my wife during the game, this was the easiest teams we've played in months...maybe we were too chill?
