***Official Niang Ankle Thread***

Jeez, we're so fn screwed w/out him. Maybe not against UNC but a good tourney run (aka final 8/4) out of the picture. Unless Freddy and the coaching staff completely change are offense (it's possible!!!) and Matt T, Edozie and SDW start playing up...we got a chance.

I love being an ISU fan - BUT WTF...Even if we WIN we Gotta wear our CUPS. Fn bullSHHHHHt

You never know guys, this might just turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Absolutely it hurts to lose Georges. Last year Aaron Craft did the honors, this year (this ****) happens. The NCAA tourney just hasn't been kind to him. However... it's going to be more so difficult now for other teams to prepare for us in not knowing what to expect with Georges out of there. Dustin Hogue, and Daniel Edozie are just chomping at the bit to get out there and show their stuff. So as far as the Sunday afternoon game goes, I'm starting to feel less sorry for Georges, and more sorry for our next 5 opponents! Go Cyclones!!!

The dude with the only perfect bracket left in the country has us going to the elite eight. That has to be worth something?

While I admire your readiness to give up like a Frenchman, we're still in the tournament, so we don't really have that option.
Therefore, it isn't flippant or self-deceptive to say that we're going to have to drive on without Georges, or even that we have the talent to do it. This is simply facing reality, saying "what do we have to do in order to keep on going" and getting on with it.

We still have a legit shot at the whole thing. There's no reason to give up now.
The team won't quit. Don't quit on them.

We do not have a shot at the whole thing without Georges.

Two types of people in this world...those who see adversity and curl up into a ball, and those that face it head on and tell it to go f*** itself. I choose to be the latter - don't tell me we can't keep advancing, because while Niang won't be on the floor he WILL still be on the bench and part of the team. We WILL get behind this team and finish what we started!

Wow. Did you type all of that during your break from the deep fryer? Impressive!

This is bad news to be sure. Best wishes to Georges for a speedy recovery.

However, I honestly believe we will be every bit as effective against this particular opponent without him. We can neutralize their bigs by forcing them outside and making them run more than they'd like. Paige is terrific and Tokoto has made some incredibly athletic plays, but if you don't give him driving lanes and runouts he won't hurt you much. CFH will turn this misfortune into a strength on Sunday--wait and see! ISU wins by 7+.

I certainly appreciate the positivity and hoping for the best against UNC but the reality is that our offense is run thru the one guy we just lost for the year. Not good. Just look at how our offense runs during games when Niang gets in foul trouble. With Niang, we are one of the nations best offenses. Without him, we aren't.

The only bright side I see is that UNC is not a very good FT shooting team.

Niang just does so much for our offense that it might be the worst player to lose on our team.

This is true. I am going to go be sick now (I went to bed before I heard the news last night).

This would have worked if the team that Mercer beat wasn't Duke. They get to go cry over their 15 final 4s, 4 national championships, and their top 10 recruiting class of 4 5 star players.

Who, after playing against some of the top talent in the nation, were still unable to beat the neighborhood kids...

What's that quote we're always hearing from the team? Oh yeah...hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.

Georges is down...but the others aren't. There are plenty of hard workers left to play the game, and unlike many of the posters here, I'd rather hope for a win than expect a loss.

This really sucks. Guess I know what the Jayhawks feel like now.

Well we got a good excuse to lose now, but I don't expect this team to do that. Time for Hogue, Thomas and the rest of the team to fill the hole.

Damm I liked our chances with George in the equation........

If only we had two all-americans including the Big XII player of the year and a coach who was Big XII coach of the year last year.

Because if we didn't have those things, we would totally be screwed.....

And for those jumping off the Hoiball train now....

Definitely sucks but I've been amazed by our team this year when Ejim or Niang has sat out the majority of a game in foul trouble and the other guys stepped up and increased the lead without out them. You never know, maybe someone like Edozie if given significant playing time might come up big. I do think it'll mainly be Ejim, Hogue, Kane, Morris, Long & Thomas the majority of the game.

Hogue and Naz are playing the best they have all year. Monte was a beast last night. We need consistency out of Kane & Ejim. Both cannot have off nights. MT, Dozer, SDW, Percy, need to be ready and give us any positive contribution they can.

I still feel sick to my stomach over Georges though.

Of course they are going to play on. However it's not poor character to say the game has changed, just as it did when the Germans drove around the Maginot line. That was a good plan but once it changed things weren't looking so hot.

Ugh. Georges is always the guy that gets shots against tough Ds. It doesn't matter how many inspirational quotes you use if you can't get shots.

Pretty much this. Our one big that can create.

Anything here on out is gravy. The season has been awesome and winning the Big12 was incredible.
