*** Official NBA draft thread ***

I’ve had a feeling he was not going to go as high as he had been predicted bc teams start falling in love with guys they think have higher ceilings but was hoping he wouldn’t go to Sac.

I think his physical upside is very high when you look at his wingspan for a true point guard. It's more than likely he fills out with some muscle.

What may have hurt the "ceiling" is two years in Big 12 competition is more of a concrete indicator than some younger guys or guys who played at various levels overseas. It showed he was good right away, but it also showed right away he's not going to be an all star within a couple years.

Maybe the Kings are not an ideal landing spot for Halliburton, but I have confidence that he will put in the work and be an outstanding player for them. I’m looking forward to watching him in the NBA.

Yup so when you play game in Illinois at Chicago you have to report Illinois income, in Colorado at Denver you have to report Colorado income, etc.
The worst ones are when you get city taxes like New York. You get federal, state, and then a muni tax for 6 hours of your life possibly

Yeah he'll be fine. Sure he could have made more, but Tyrese is one of the brightest guys around. He will be set for life with that money alone if he manages it correctly. But he's going to be getting many years of payment in the league for 10+ years.

My overall tax rate is lower in California than it was in Illinois.

Net taxes are higher because property is crazy expensive...but not in Sacramento as much as Bay or Socal.

Sales tax and various driving related costs are radically lower in LA than Chicago. (of course all of this probably just means Chicago is really really bad for taxes rather than LA is good)

NBA not about rookie deals. Most are all the same except the top top picks. It’s about earning a second and third contract. Does Sacramento make you think long term success?

Yeah, he has a guaranteed rookie lottery pick deal unlike 75% of the players who will get drafted tonight, 50% of them get nothing guaranteed tonight.

He has that exact same opportunity for his next deal that Monte has right now if he earns it.

NBA GMs and scouts aren't idiots, if he excels on a bad team they'll know how well he's playing.

If Fox leaves like rumors have swirling he might, then Tyrese can absolutely make a name for himself and get a contract with a different team who is a contender.

The Kings?! How can you be positive about that?

Plus there is some young talent on the Kings

Not meaning to derail from the Haliburton talk but any thoughts on the other picks so far? I dunno what the Bulls were thinking at #4. They probably could have traded down and still got Williams in the top 10. I get that he is 19 with a lot of upside but that didn't seem to matter last year with THT falling out of the 1st round. He averaged 9 ppg last year so not a lot to get excited about at the moment. Could be a pick they look back and wish they had not passed on guys like Okoro, Toppin, Avdija, and Haliburton. Saw 1 comment on social media that the pick feels a lot like when the Bears picked Trubisky over Mahomes and Watson. They got rid of Gar Forman but still feels like John Paxson has his fingerprints on the Williams pick for some reason.
