I'm trusting Shadow on this one.

For placement matches points are already added into the team scores; the wrestler that wins gets more and the loser doesn't get any more. For example: In the finals, both wrestlers are awarded the 12 for second place. The winner gets the other 4 to make up the 16. Goes that way all the way down the board.

So it's both, then.

Yep. It's the American educational system hard at work. Everyone's right, no bad feelings, and stickers all around!

So if Iowa has 5 in the finals with a potential of 4 more points each and 3 in the 3rd/5th spots for 1 point each, that's a total of 23 remaining potential points. ISU would be the same way. With an 11 point lead, we would need at the most 13 points... 3 of 5 champions and 1 of 3 for the 3rd or 5th finishes to win the tourney.

Now if we win a head-to-head match up, Iowa then could only score 19 points and with the win ISU would increase the lead to 15.... only leaving one more champion with the 3rd and 5th spots meaningless.

This of course excludes bonus points.

Is that right?
