Official Iowa vs ISU Game Thread

I don't think that 4th and 10 play was a draw. I think it was just a broken play, but I agree that that's too early to go for it. It seemed like Coach Mac panicked.

Also, ISU's defense looked terrible the second half. They either gave up or way too tired. Lots of arm tackles and missed open field plays. It's one thing to get out played, but another to get out hustled.

Well, I will be anxiously awaiting to hear from all of the Mac supporters on this one. He, and Barney Cotton, lost the game that has saved his job year after year. Maybe, just maybe, the rest of the people on here will finally be honest about what's going on.....awwwww never mind.
On a brighter note, 14.5 points was HUUUUGE, a nice tidy sum will be coming to papa

Was the one older announcer drunk??? He pronounced Chandler's name as "Candler" at least four times.

The defense got tired because we had the damn ball for just over 12 minutes in the second half. Man for a guy that wants to play ball control offense, Mac sure does a POOR job of managing the clock doesn't he???

It seemed like the announcers just rolled in last night with no idea about either team other than what they read from the two media guides. I hear better announcing on my son's NCAA video game.

Way to go Mac, let's pull another defeat from the jaws of victory. 4th and 10 with 5 minutes left, and you go for it????? wtf?????? Then they decide to run a QB draw??? That play is there all day, on 1st and 2nd downs, NOT 4TH AND 10!!!!!

Listen...you complain ALL the time Mac is not agressive...now that he is...you complain.

And you've further solidified your ignorance by calling that play a QB draw. It was a PASS...no one was there...so Meyer took off.

The older anouncer has been drinking since yesterday afternoon.

You can't hang that second half all on the coaching. I only saw one drive that we coached ourselves into a punt. Meyer went totally cold in the second half, and the Hawkeye secondary did a better job of taking away the short stuff.

I have to give Mac credit for showing some aggression - but it just wasn't SMART. Really - who goes for it on 4-10 while you're on the opposing team's 40? Why not punt it with over 5 minutes to go in the game. I agree - seems like he panicked.

my complaints are not with mac or cotton but the the defensive coordinator.
defense needs to play tighter game. horrible at making any reads this year or adjustments.

Yes, I want Mac to be more aggressive, however with 5:00 left in the game and you are in your own territory, trailing by a mere touchdown, with a QB and group of receivers that can move the ball at will, which they showed earlier in the game until our OC took the ball out of Meyer's hands, and stagnated our offense, it would not be a big stretch of the imagination that maybe, just maybe, we could take the ball down the field and get a score to tie the game, why would you go for it on 4th and 10 when you might be able to stop the Hawks, and if the staff didn't have any confidence in the defense to do that then that is a BIGGER CONCERN, than any in game coaching ineptitudes, and maybe have another chance to get the tying touchdown.
That folks is my record for longest run on sentences. Love you all

It really seemed pretty simple to me, the Hawkeye coaching staff, they made adjustments during the game. The Cyclone coaching staff, not so much.
How many times do we have to see this really???
I guess it makes sense though, the way we cover punts, they probably would have gotten the ball at midfield anyway. You are right, I am wrong, my bad.

My thoughts.

Iowa came up with the big plays when they needed them and stopped us when they needed to. They deserve all of the credit for winning this one.

Having said that, this was a game that was ours to lose, and we succeeded again. I hated that we just sat on the ball before half. Iowa had momentum going into halftime, and we needed to do something that would give us something to go on for the 2nd half besides a meager 4 point lead. I was very proud of how our team played for most of the first half. I still have yet to see the real Iowa State team come to play for a full game. Where were we at all during the 2nd half? We started off pretty good holding Iowa to a 3-and-out, then kicking a field goal. Things after that went downhill. Iowa was just able to make plays that we weren't able to. Tate was the reason Iowa won the game. He was able to fire up his team enough to get the victory.

4-10 with 5 minutes to go...... I don't have a problem with us going for it. We needed a big play to give us the momentum to finish the game, we just weren't able to execute.

Last Iowa FG.... was it me or did it look like that ball was partially blocked by us? Then it hits the upright and goes in. That's just our luck. If it was partially blocked that would be 3 straight games where we partially blocked a kick and the opposing team still scores. What a downer!

Hats off to both teams, but it's going to suck having to wait another year until we can claim the Cy-Hawk Trophy at our house next year!!!

I think that Iowa is better than we are, I thought that they were 10-14 points better, they will win 9-11 games this year, us??? Who knows???
But when you have the schedule coming up that we do, you have to do what's necessary to win games when you have the chance.
That is where you have to step up, you put your players in a position to win, then don't let them do it because you have to prove to people that we can run up the middle??? That's lunacy, and WHEN HAS IT EVER WORKED FOR DAN IN A GAME WHERE WE ARE PLAYING A BETTER OPPONENT?????

Jump on board darts180. Mac sucks period. Still can't convince the "look where he's taken the program" folks. Mac has had 12 years and he's beaten 2 teams that finish the season with a winning record in the Big 12. He blew 2 chances to play in the Big 12 championship game with losses to teams we had no business losing too. As long as we go to sh!tty bowl games, everything is good. Half the teams in D1 go to bowl games. And for the "6 of 8" crowd that's how Mac has kept his job. Iowa can now claim 3 of the last 4 and I hope Jamie is taking notes.

Many of you seem to forget the NEW game rules. 5 minutes is more like 2:30 to 3 minutes now. So ask yourself...would you punt it with 3 minutes left? I doubt it. I think you'll see many more coaches making the same decision DMAC did. It's definitely better to be proactive & control your own destiny than reactive.

Ahhh...someone who actually thinks around here. Kudos!
