*** Official IOWA STATE VS Texas Tech Game(Day) Thread ***

I don't feel like looking back. I remember you saying something about it being on Prohm for Babb being in that situation. Babb was going to be a part of that play one way or the other. It's not like Tech was just going to magically let us inbound the ball to Matt uncontested in the middle of the court. They directed the ball to the corner and did everything but shank Monte there. He was fortunate to get to ball to ANYBODY at that point without turning it over. Babb happened to be that guy and I give him credit for sticking his nose in there and being strong with the ball. Any play design goes out the window at that point. He missed the free throws...it happens. These were the toughest minutes he's played in his career and there's no way to simulate them in practice or anywhere else. Hopefully he's better for it down the road.

And the guy was 70% on the line, I have seen 90% free throw guys miss a couple of free tosses near the end of games. It happens.

I think everyone on that floor was 70% or better. Babb being the lowest. There is not much more you can ask a coach to do. Not to mention he had the 70% guy throw it in to improve the odds .

He never did answer my question, so maybe he re-watched the play and realized after review Prohm did what he could..

I'm still riding a high from that win last night. Me waking up this morning..

If we win out and win the conference tourney we would be in 4 seed territory. Our RPI would be pretty high in this scenario. I'm not saying this is going to happen but it's possible.

Prob a 5 seed...although possible I guess..The problem is our RPI just is kinda been stuck..if we win out and get to CC game our RPI will still be around 26thish....really depends on how others do.

Great win. Almost blew the game in regulation. That should have never gone to OT. But a few bad calls didn't help. Really tough win and palyed good D down the stretch even though their offense sucked the last 5 minutes they managed to find a way. Last three games are all tough but it is nice to have this big of break before playing Baylor.

I think if they win out and win a game in the tourney they can get a 5 seed but I think they will win their home games and lose to WVU. They will end up with a 6 seed.

Winning the remaining games and the Big 12 tourney results in a 5? Surely you jest.
I'd need to see the numbers to know for sure but yeah, that's probably a good guess. A 4 could be possible too. Depends on who we beat and what happens to other teams in that area.

Winning out gets to 5 at best. We are currently 7-9 according to the experts. Needed to beat Cincinnati and the zags to be a 4.

A win Saturday would be a lot of fun. Baylor is literally more of a nemesis than KU in recent history. It's mainly because they're the exact horrible matchup vs. what ISU has had but it's still weird.

Fair enough. You said it was on Prohm for having Babb in at the end of the game. Who should have he had in there in those exact circumstances with 2 starters fouled out? Do you want Bowie and his 40% free throw percentage? Holden, who's not much better and seldom catches the ball cleanly? Do you want pom pom Simeon or Greder to peel off the warmups and see if they can come up big for us?

Prohm isn't blameless for the struggles we've had but things seem to be rounding into shape pretty nicely and you're acting like we just lost to Iowa again. This is a helluva win and criticizing him for who is on the court in the 44th minute of a game with no reasonable alternative just screams out that you have a vendetta. I don't really pay attention to the patterns of individual posters and even I can see that.

"struggles" lol.

ALSO. We aren't winning out so just stop. This is why it sucks to be a smark for ISU basketball the highs are WAY too high and the lows are akin to a tragic death of someone far too young.

Well, I will just text the team and tell them to win out and we can see who wins this debate. LOL.

True. At the risk of being tormented by jsb, I'll stick with my 'can we pull this off' worry status, so I can be pleasantly surprised again. I'm not sure we can beat Baylor if Baylor plays well, regardless if we do, too. In other words, I'm saying if they're at their best, they will beat our best. Follow?

Motley has feasted on us in other games. Can we neutralize him at all? How many scores in the paint do we get, much less rebounds, due to their tremendous height. And this Baylor team has a lot of depth. While we're doubling Motley, can Baylor not shoot 3's out of their head?

Having said that, if KState beat them on the road, and Tech beat them last Monday, then why can't we?? I'm holding on to that, and hope to experience that 'fun' Saturday you speak of.

Winning out would almost certainly get us a 4.
You could be right. Would put us at 24-9, 2nd place in Big 12 regular season, winners of the conference tournament, and on a 9 game win streak heading into the real tournament. Hopefully the scenario plays out.

Yes, struggles. Losing at Texas, Vandy and Iowa (our worst rpi losses) looked like struggles to me. The lack of any post presence for most of the season was a struggle and so were a number of games that we couldn't quite get over the hump in. I guess I'm missing how acknowledging that those things happened is "lol" worthy.

Stop what? Sticking up for Prohm and trying to talk people off the ledge after a WIN?

We aren't winning? What happened in 4 out of the last 5 games then? Or is this the part where I'm supposed to say "the team" instead of "we?" Yes the highs as fans are great and the lows suck but maybe you need to stop taking things so literally. I can search my history but I don't think I've ever posted anything relatively close to comparing our lows to a tragic death.

Also, I'm not sure wtf a smark is. Please enlighten me.

Baylor has flaws. They're a very good team, but maybe not as good as their start and certainly not as bad as their recent play would indicate. Their inside size is scary, but with the emergence of Young, and Holden/Bowie playing more to their roles, I think we can overcome their advantage inside with our big advantage on the perimeter.

We just need to be patient against their zone, find good shots, and make sure that Baylor doesn't get too many cheapies. Great ball pressure on their guards should give us a chance for some transition points too. Best effort against best effort, I'd call it close to even with Hilton thrown in the mix.

It's not even really useful to compare what happened the first time around against Baylor. SY changes everything. If he can stay out of foul trouble and do what he does we'll win the game.
