*** Official IOWA STATE vs #11 Oklahoma Game(Day) Thread ***

Losing a road game to a top 25 team when we are leading by 1 with 4:10 to play is simply a huge missed opportunity. Not sure how many more times we will be in that position.

HAVE to defend Hilton, starts on Tuesday.

King unplayable? That's a ridiculous overreaction. He didn't have a good game yesterday. He will be a very important piece all season.

I think several players, especially the new guards, needed to adjust to the physical nature of conference play and the skill level of the opposing players. I suppose a tougher noncon might have helped them prepare. Water under the bridge. Move on.

Disappointed in the loss, but I think they showed they belong and nothing from it lessens my belief that this team can finish top 6 of the conference and get a good seed come March Madness.

good points, but I think the fans feel each conference game is extremely important this year as our margin for error is less this time around. In prior years we were going round robin in a 10 team league that didn't really have a bottom. Last year for example, 8-10 was going to get us a bid. This year that won't be the case, since we do not have any quality non-con wins, it's probably going to take 1-8 to get a bid. So, fans probably will feel a higher level of frustration and pain with a loss, especially in a game where we had a chance down the stretch.
No we just have a large contingent on here that freak out over any loss. The point is, road wins are hard in college hoops. They are very hard to get in the Big 12. Win your home games and find a win or two on the road. Had a chance yesterday and didn’t get it. Is what it is. This team is either going to prove they are a tournament team or not regardless of the non-con schedule. If we can’t get to 8-10 at least in the league this team doesn’t deserve a bid. Not a fan of 7-11 getting in unless those 7 wins are some damn good wins.

Will be tough but a win against Houston next and all is right with the world.

OU did a better job of finding ways to attack our defense and execute it. Our offense seems like a hodge podge of driving and hoping we can find someone open.

And at the end of the day it’s just the ability for your shooters to make open shots. OU went 10-26 and rarely missed a wide open 3. ISU went 3-16 and missed pretty much every open 3

Completely disagree on shot quality. Curtis Jones gets 4 seconds to set up against the non con patsies. Against high major competition, we don't have guys able to get their shot off. How many open threes did we create in the offense yesterday? 6 or 7? Most of those were Momcilovic who can get his shot off because he's 6'8".
I guess I remember things differently. From what I remember from yesterday, at least 2-3 of MM's missed threes were pretty wide open (regardless of his height), Pav and Gilbert's were pretty open, and at least a couple of Lipsey's were open as well. I specifically remember one of Lipsey's missed threes was a big one when the game was tied in the second half where the defender went under a screen and Lipsey had all sorts of room, a shot that he certainly was making against the cupcakes. For the most part, I think there were just a couple end of clock desperation three point attempts that were truly not open.

I suppose there's not really a good way to evaluate who's correct, short of going back and looking how the contests compared to the games against cupcakes.

Because it was out of character. We kinda know what we have in Lipsey. Of course he deserves criticism, but what's the point? We know he will be back.

Also, that minute or so he was out before the 8 min media timeout showed how much he was contributing while in. We kind of fell apart in that gap.

I thought Pav was actually fine yesterday except for the stretch that Gilbert and Tamin were out. Which wasn't really fair to him in that situation. He's a good secondary ball handler but hasn't got much run at being the primary

Lipsey had back to back wide open misses late in the second half. Pav had a wide open miss in the corner

It's wild Watson got 15 minutes in a game Ward returned.

I think TJ realized he may have played Hason too much in his first game back. His foot was sore. He knows how important Ward is and wants to bring him along a bit slower, see how the foot reacts in game 2.

It doesn't make the most sense, not seeing Watson play too much up till now. But he is needed now.

I wondered if Lipsey just had an "off" game or OU had schemed to minimize his effectiveness and it worked. (Could be a little of both).

Having to battle foul trouble didn't help.
Can’t beat good teams on the road when our team leader has one of his worst games of the year. We won’t see Tamin go 1/10 and 0/4 from three again this year.

It did not help ISU that nearly every single out of bounds ball went to OU. That's a lot of extra chances.

Most of that is just bad luck, but there were a few I would have liked another look at (that ESPN+ is never gonna give)

The caveat is that the opponent has to have the skill and athleticism to create/find that open look.

This definitely could be one of the "cons" of a weak non-con schedule...you can double team to your heart's content and not get burned, which creates the facade that that the double-teaming scheme is sound for the rigorous competition and better athleticism of the Big 12.
Much of the Big 12 has this capability. :(

If we keep playing defense this way, teams will continue to shoot with confidence against us.

You should see the ways defenders part though, and that vertical
Don't forget the handles...
