***Official FIFA World Cup 2018 Thread***

It’s kind of funny that I’ve been following (at a distance) England’s national team for about 20 years, and then my parents did. Ancestry DNA earlier this year and found out I’m actually English.

Did yours specify difference between Irish an British? My 23andme said I’m 49% British/Irish but didn’t distinguish. I’m adopted but given nationalities where I was born I’m thinking mostly Irish.

Only surprise I got was 1% India. I do eat Indian food a ton but I’m blonde hair blue eyes so kind of funny. The rest is German/Scandinavia.

Pretty sure the Russians just zapped the Croatian goalie’s hamstring with some secret laser.

Croatia really having to earn this but they’ve clearly dominated and England will really have their hands full if it holds.

Unbelievable. Now vs an injured goalkeeper in pks.

Russia is going to face the nation it’s currently attacking with poison nerve gas in the semis.

Croatia going to have anything left in the tank vs. England after those last 2 games? Have my doubts they will.

Yes - it specifically said “non-_____” British (that blank being whatever it was that excluded Irish, Scotish, and Welsh - I forget the exact term). It also indicated that my dad was 3% Irish, but 30% British.

My mom was upset that she’s not 100% Italian (Calabrese) like she thought she was. She also has Arab, Persian, Jewish, and Caucasus in her. I had to remind her that the Roman Empire was a very big place.

Very interesting. I wish I could've seen that distinguished rather than just British/Irish.

The region I was adopted from would suggest Irish, but the 1% India would suggest at least partly English for me.

To an extent. Had McDermott actually won at Iowa State, sure, more fans would have been on board with him. However, fans would have been complaining about how boring the games are. For example, Wisconsin over the last couple of decades has won a lot in both football and basketball. All you ever hear about from ISU fans is how they can’t stand to watch their games because of how boring they are, how Wisconsin sets football/basketball back several decades, etc.

I believe if it's not your team it's boring, if it's your team you don't care and will support them because their winning. ISU's example would be the Floyd yrs very defensive driven and good crowds to back it. Fred's teams very offensive driven good crowds to back it. Commonality was winning. Well that's my 2 cents worth anyway.

DNA tests are great! I found out I have Welsh ancestry, which probably explains why I've always liked the name Angharad.

Not World Cup News, but Huge nonetheless. Cristiano Ronaldo was just announced that he will be making the move to Juventus from Real Madrid

Watch out everyone, hide yo' kids, hide yo' forwards because Madrid is coming with a wheelbarrow full of cash. Liverpool just signed Mo Salah, right?

Vive la France!

Allez la France you uncultured swine!
