Official Duke Postgame Thread

At about 6:00 Minutes left in the second half of the Duke game, Diante Garrett threw a pass that was intercepted by Scheyer (#30) and then brought all the way to the opposite basket nearly uncontested and Scheyer layed it in and was fouled by Garrett. During the play only 2 of Iowa State players hustled down to the other end to even try to defend it. Now I know we were down by 20 or whatever, but personally I hate to watch that. I hate lack of hustle, and in all levels of basketball it is important.

But its what happened directly after the lay in and foul by Diante that really disappointed me. Seemingly all five of our on-court players met in the lane and began to literally yell at every other one. The ESPN cameras caught some of it and luckily Jay Bilas talked during the interaction, but you could still distinctly hear our players bickering and arguing, on the court, on National television. Brackins and Diante looked like the veins in their neck were going to start punching each other because they were yelling so hard. I find this embarrassing and very unprofessional. I realize that it was the most frustrating game of the season thus far for us and especially our players, but there is a time and place for argument and it is not in the free throw lane on ESPN.

Did anyone else see/notice this?

And finally I ask if this is just pure frustration from our players, or could there be a little rift in our team chemistry?

I did not see this but I'll take your word for it. Prepare for a great NIT run in March folks.

Well, after all was said and done, we didn't get even what I would call an "ok" non-conference win. Seriously, 7-6 Houston at home is our best win and it took OT to do it. I think we are in a world of hurt getting to post season play. GMac's 4th year and this game is all we have thus far. I am having SERIOUS doubts as to the direction of our MBB's program....

anybody think this duke team has a chance to have a shot at the national title?, with that defense and their shooting they can play with any team in my opinion

They are certainly good where they need to be good, but I think that a team that can match their discipline, and outmatch their athleticism could take them out.

Wow, another HORRIBLE offensive game against an above average defensive opponent for McD. Seriously his "system" only works against teams that don't like to play D. Against an above average to good team it looks like the Washington Generals out there.

As usual, the ISU games just aren't fun to watch. No hustle, no reboundings. Both things that again are pretty standard in McD's tenure. Oh well, I'm getting used to it now. Anyone that says that this team is going to the NIT is kidding themselves.

Do some research. We played well offensively. Duke is a very, very good defensive team. Offense wasn't the issue tonight.

I would give anything for an NIT birth.

While I still think an NCAA ticket is possible, I don't think an NIT bid would be terrible. I think it would be fun for our team to go deep in the NIT, maybe even better than a one-and-out in the NCAA.

Maybe, maybe not.

Saw this. Didn't like this.

I don't know what to think or believe anymore man.

post game thread frustration

I understand the point of keeping all post-game comments to a post game thread. My frustration is that there are some seperate but related points that should be allowed to stand alone. Someone raised a good question about team chemistry, I saw the same thing and the forced fist bump on the bench between DG and Dendy. Sure it is coming out of this game, but the chemistry of the team is a seperate discussion. Same thing with another closed thread about our offense, do we do anything outside of a high post screen? Again, raised from this game, but is a seperate discussion. I don't have the time to sort through the 70 post thread about post game to sort out the whining, I want to read the specific discussions.

Nope, they will be eliminated in the second round as usual.

Wait, so we need to ***** that the guys show no emotion, and then when the guys that need to be leaders are exerting themselves over the rest of the team it's embarassing?

I don't even know how to feel anymore.

Hold me

If you saw and heard our Cyclones yelling over the announcers and crowd at each other, especially when the leaders are yelling at each other, on tv, yes that is embarrassing.

I hear your frustration. It's always an issue after losses, because people start numerous threads simultaneously, most of which all vary on the theme of "we suck". This is hard to moderate, and counterproductive.

As always, the moderators will discuss this issue and modify practices as needed.

**** poor effort...we need an Iowa farm boy that gets on the floor for every ball and knows what hard work means. We have a bunch of sallys on the court. Gillstrap gives a great effort.
