***Official Driving Back Home Thread***

I'm over these Texas drivers they make driving harder than it needs to be. First they don't know how to read the sign that says "left lane for passing", so you get someone going 15 mph below the speed limit holding up the left lane. Then on the other extreme you have the guys going 25 over the speed limit going in and out of traffic causing everyone to brake check for them. I just want to set the cruise at 5 - 10 over and drive.
You must not travel between Ames and Ankeny much.

San Antonio to DFW was rough. There was an oversized building being hauled that took up 2 lanes. With the traffic volume and the 6 or 7 Windstar charter busses, it made a bad situation worse. Had to deal with that twice due to a stop I had to make.

Overnighting in DFW. I've had enough for today. Hopefully clear sailing tomorrow

I'm not driving, as I watched the game at home. But I've always heldhthe opinion that in more urban areas, you use all lanes of a highway. In rural area, you get out of the left, unless passing.

Having said that, Texas has the you don't tell me what to do at attitude, so probably explains the left lane cruisers

I do Ankeny to Ames and back for work every day and can confirm that Texas drivers take it to a whole new extreme.

Even the bad driving abilities are bigger in Texas.
That must be really bad then. That would suck.

We're on the Kansas turnpike now. I took the 1st 8 hours and wife just took over. I thought today would suck after the loss. We were going to try the Joplin route but didnt figure Jerry World would be much fun with bowl game traffic so we stayed west again. I'm not saying I'm enjoying it but it's a helluva lot less stressful than driving down in the monsoon Wednesday.

God willing we'll get by with one more stop and be home by 1230.

Still lots of Cyclones on the RiverWalk today. Still proudly wearing the Cardinal and Gold. Thought this bowl would be a good time and wasn’t disappointed in San Antonio. Would love to come back here and pick up a win.

Ah yes, where everyone wants the same spot at the same time and no one is willing to give an inch and where lane change signals are looked at as more of challenge than a courtesy? I know it well. And with as many miles as I have driven in both states.......I will take Texas driving over what passes here any day of the week.

Just getting through Oklahoma and staying in Witchita. Traffic through pretty much all of Texas was heavy. Basically no cruise control the whole time in Texas. Much smoother sailing once we hit Oklahoma.

We left Round Rock @ 7:45, took 35/71/69/etc thru Joplin. Just getting to WDSM. Just under 2,000 mi since Wednesday. Great trip (other than the outcome of the game)!

Got back home a couple hours ago. 14.5 hours so cut a couple hours off from the drive down and 2 less miles traveled.

We still have a long ways to go. Going to be a long night. Just about to Kansas. Got to go by the Cotton Bow during the game which was cool though.

Got to Ames at 11:47 PM. We unloaded our luggage from my sister's explorer, loaded our car and heading to Cedar Rapids. What's another hour and a half when u already went 15. Most importantly I'm sleeping in my own bed and not someone elses.

Left at 6 AM, and got back about 10:30.

Traffic was almost non-resistant until Dallas, and even then not a problem until Denton where 35W and 35E merged. Then, it was pretty rough from there to Oklahoma City. Tons of left lane campers, and strings of cars 20+ long trying to dodge semis. Saw lots of ISU fans on the way. Had fun, and we are very glad we went to the game. :)

1187 miles today in 16:18 including stops. Holy crap is it good to be home. Whirlwind tour over 4 days. Glad we went but not dying to do it again any time soon.

Edit to add, we made it home from SA today in less time than it took us to get to Austin Wednesday. Definitely colder today but waaaaay better driving conditions.

Getting ready to head home

Minneapolis here I come.

You're not going to dig the slushy stuff that got rained on and then froze solid while you were gone.

Roads are okay, everyone's walks are a mess. I didn't get mine cleaned off in time.
