****Official Class Of 2024 Recruiting Thread****

Did someone say we are recruiting this kid? I don’t see us mentioned anywhere with him? What’s up with him
There was a tweet this morning saying Iowa State was the latest high major to offer. That is what I posted, along with his 247 page. The original tweet I saw and posted here has been deleted though.

Guessing someone messed up and tweeted some incorrect info.

Probably Arizona State not Iowa State . . . .

Gotcha. Thanks for the info

Here are Asuma's sophomore highlights:

Obviously he's playing against pretty weak competition, but the video says his sophomore year stats were 26 points, 7 assists, 9.5 rebounds, and 3.6 steals per game. Crazy numbers for a high school sophomore no matter who he's going up against. Something about his highlights and the way he moves reminds me a bit of Tyrese Haliburton.

He'd like to visit in Jan. Do we still take if Asuma commits before then?
Don’t believe Asuma recruitment would be affected as he plays PG and still the priority.
I think the Staff is open to take 4 HS commits if it is the right player, Pierce meets that criteria. It would be for 2024 which is a ways out, a lot of roster change can happen by then.

Not saying we won't get Assuna but PG will definitely be the toughest pull in 2024. Lipsey will still have 2 years when this class arrives on campus.

I may be unfairly generalizing, but I think Assuma is going to need time to adjust from a school of <200 kids (7-12 grade) where they let 8th graders play varsity basketball to the toughest college basketball conference in the country.

I’m not certain he’s going to be ready for playing time immediately whether Lipsey is here or not.

Not really. High school basketball is the least they play ball. If he plays for the right AAU team he has played against all the big players and knows how to play top guys. Inhave not seen who he plays AAU with. High school is such a small part of basketball now compared to AAU

The thing with AAU is that they play zero defenose. He is, of course, playing against better competition in AAU with D1 Minnesota (same program as Tamin and Eli), but it’s still a huge adjustment.

Asuma would have blue blood offers if he played for a major school (I bet there is less than 500 people within a 5-mile radius of the school). The fact that he plays an hour NW of Duluth REALLY helps us. As long as we are making him the priority.

So is he up in Megan Taylor territory? Googled not really he is probably an hour south of her and a ways east.

Hopefully he would like to come in and learn and improve. Not that long ago Monte Morris was going to be our starting Fr. point guard and he got bumped by Kane and got to learn. Getting to learn behind Lipsey would be a good experience IMO. Just depends on what the young man wants, in the NIL world who knows how things shake out.

Crappy AAU teams play zero defense. Good AAU teams with high level D II and D I kids play very good defense. It is the equivalent of a small college basketball game. Your underestimating the quality of play of AAU teams.

I agree. The no defense thing was true 15-20 years ago. Now they play really good defense.
