***OFFICIAL BIG 12 EXPANSION THREAD 2.0***

Do you believe the conferences will remain static?
Change will happen again at some point. Seems to be surprise moves per year- I expect one sometime before November 2013.

Something is definitely going to happen. The fact that we are still talking about it here is proof of that. We certainly aren't the only fans talking about it and if fans are talking about it, then administration has to be as well. And I am definitely against expansion solely for the sake that everyone else is doing it. I think of the old saying, "If everyone else jumped off the edge of the cliff, would you too?"

I will admit though, I"m still a little nervous and if there is anything that concerns me about this, it's the possibility that the powers that be in the Big XII have gold blindness. The new influx of wealth could have made them a little greedy and not willing to share, as opposed to actively looking to the future health of the conference. Is it a major fear, no, and this is not a prediction either. But, I can't help but think that it was greed and short-sightedness that got the Big XII into it's previous problems, so it's not that far out of reach to think the same thing may hurt this conference in the future. Texas, OU, they have no worries, they will end up somewhere and right now they are making a good buck. The ISUs and KSUs are getting paid right now, but is that blinding them to the fact that if there was major blast again, we'd probably end up nowhere?

As I said, I'm not trying to say the Big XII is doomed nor do I think they will screw it all up again. But, to say my fears are put completely to rest is a stretch, as well.

I think the Big 12 atleast goes to 14 when it expands. I think the big school right now is UNC. Do they want to go to the B1G or stay with Duke and go to SEC. After they make a decison most of the others will sort themselves out.

Not if UNC is truly content with less money in the ACC. Then, you are looking at needing a Miami and probably another school to leave before UNC gives up on the ACC. That is where I think we are at- in the process of determining whether other schools will leave to get this started. It is plausible that both the SEC and BIG need the Big 12 for that to happen, and it happens first (but only after those schools realize the Big 12 is their best option).

Say the BIG puts the fear in a Miami (or potentially even a Clemson or NC ST) that UVa or GT are BIG bound. In response, to insure they get one of the 4 or 6 spots in the Big 12, one of those three preemptively agree to the Big 12. Then it gets interesting.

If I could have a perfect outcome from the pending conference realignment it would be

North Pod
Iowa State
Notre Dame
West Virginia
Miami, Fl

East Pod
Florida State
Clemson
North Carolina
Duke

West Pod
Kansas
Kansas State
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State

South Pod
Texas
Texas Tech
Texas Christian
Baylor

Adding Miami pulls FSU and Clemson
UNC wanting to keep DuKe and have their own Tier 3 network stuns everyone and joins the Big 12 (soon to be Big 16)
Notre Dame seeing the writing on the wall that they have to join a conference, joins the Big 12 since it provides a wider conference footprint and schools in the most fertile recruiting grounds TX & FL. Notre Dame also can retain its network as a Tier 3.

The Big 12 will then have added both football powers and basketball powers.

OK my alarm is beeping - time to wake up.

I disagree, I think the best setup would be:

North Division:

Kansas
Kansas State
Nebraska
Iowa State
Missouri
Colorado

South Division:

Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas
Texas Tech
Baylor
TCU (**** aggy)

That looks about right to me.

I think that you have Miami looking at that move becasue they are sure that Virginia is gone to the B1G. Thants why I think it all comes down to UNC

Is it time to believe yet? Probably not. Plus, anything happening now would kill message board traffic in the summer.

Maybe not. I do think it should be noted that the NCAA convention was in Dallas last week. Therefore everyone was all together to talk. Big 12 expansion meeting is set for yet this month isn't it? I think something is brewing.

Sure does seem like several people think UVa gets a Big 10 offer this week and it is likely the Big 10 will offer GT and Duke in order to get UNC. SEC grabs Va Tech and NC St? FSU, Miami, Clemson, UL to the Big 12? I could live with that.

I think the B1G goes 16 or 20 I dont think they go 18 I also think SEC follows whatever the B1G does if they move this week

Chip is back:

"The potential for realignment is heating back up again involving the Big 12.

I hope to have more on this later in the week. I can't even talk about what I know right now because I've been sworn to secrecy and will have to get more information from other places."

Some one UT boards are throwing out ideas on FSU and Clemson to the Big 12, then a Big 12-ACC scheduling alliance. Miami? I guess they have been written out of the ******.
