San Diego State meeting with Big East; Mountain West talks ongoing - CBSSports.com

Meanwhile, Thompson told CBSSports.com Thursday night he's been talking to SDSU president Elliot Hirshman "probably every day this week" about the dynamics of rejoining the MWC.

A president's vote is not imminent, Thompson said. Once San Diego State and the Mountain West agree to terms, Thompson must get a three-fourths majority vote of acceptance from his membership.
"I think it's cracking pretty well," Thompson said. "The devil's in the details, but no one's saying, 'No, let's shift gears.' They've spoken with CBS, TV consultants, trying to understand the whole TV structure and package."

Three 20 team conferences is not good as far as I'm concerned, four 18 team conferences would be better because in the latter ISU would survive the cut better than in three 20 team conferences.

As long as ISU stays in a conference of AQ status and not on the outside looking in I am okay with whatever happens. I think this **** blows, but money and greed has consumed college sports and will destroy it eventually.

Take this for what its worth:

Several insiders have now reported that Miami is in serious talks with Big 12. Miami said they would accept a Big 12 invitation and see the writing on the wall for the ACC. This is on the hells of Bobs comments yesterday. His comments could have been a public...we making are moves now heads up to other conferences or current ACC members.

Can you name one "insider" that has throw this out there other than MHver3 on the WV board? Not saying there isn't some truth to what he throws out there, but if he is the only "source" it needs to be taken for entertainment value only.

Good first move imo. Miami adds match ups, which is what we need since no network. Miami has no other options, so why not. Here are other teams options:

FSU-wants big ten or sec, has a home in big 12 to fall back on
UNC-will be big ten or sec
UVA-most likely big ten
GTech- most likely big ten, can fall back on big 12 if we go past 12
clemson-hoping for ACC survival, big 12 if we go past 12
duke- Needs to hook onto UNC, or could be in trouble, will probably land on its feet though
syracuse-outside shot of big10, not sure on them, not writing them off because of NYC, and bball
Pitt-no one wants them
Louisville-in play only if big 12 goes to 16
BC-slight shot at big 10
VaTech-SEC or big 12 if we go beyond 12
Wake Forest-SOL
NC State-Needs SEC or could be in trouble, in play if big 12 goes to 14 or 16

Looks like The Dude and Greg Swaim have joined the "6 from AAC to Big 12" party. The U, FSU, Clemson, NC St., VT and either GT or Louisville. All on Twitter. All to be taken w/ the usual skepticism. MHver3 is only reporting a second "we'll accept if you invite", after the U. Same as above, Twitter and skepticism.

All I care is that Megathread 2.0 kicks into high gear again!

Doubtful, but it would obviously be great for the Big 12. It is too bad we did not take UL instead of TCU and thus include all 7. Add WVU to those and you have a strong eastern division of the Big 12.

Will we actually really be proactive this time around? Screw it bring it on I guess, lets get rich beeeaaccchheessss!!! Cannot live in the past of what used to be, on to this new fad and greed better start paying the players too while we are at it.

If the Big 12 goes to 16, I'd bet that we wouldn't be the only conference to go there (B1G and SEC cleaning up the rest of the ACC).

I really hate it for basketball, not having a home game vs Kansas every year would be really disappointing. Also pretty easy to see us getting lost in the shuffle of that football league.

I really hate the thought of a 16 team conference.
Scheduling would be different, and there is no great way to continue what is the biggest benefit of 10 and 12 team conferences- familiarity that comes with frequent match-ups.

For a 16 team league, it may be easier to group by the dual of the problem. Instead of maximizing the occurrence of desired match-ups, minimize the occurrence of the less desirable match-ups. For two divisions that is the same thing, for pods, not quite, as the three most significant weights are given to the 3 teams you want to avoid. Instead of automatically having 3 games you must play every year, start off with having 3 teams of two years off, one on. Either rotate through the other pods (two years on, one off against the other teams), or designate a pod you play every year and rotate the other two.
