***OFFICIAL BIG 12 EXPANSION THREAD 2.0***

Orrrrr....Florida was VASTLY overrated.

I don't see how they could be 'vastly' over rated after going 11-1. They beat A&M, Vandy, and Fl St on the road and destroyed SC at home. Only loss was a road loss to Ga that they think they should have won. Louisville had a good team and their qb had a good night.

We see this pretty much every year now don't we with these conference championship games. Deflated team not playing fr omuch gets knocked off by hungrier team out to prove something.

Louisville is a filler school. That is why it took them so long to get picked up in the first place, and only by the ACC at that. Sure, they have had some good success in Football and Basketball, but they don't deliver a large market and they are not a nationally recognized brand. Because of that, they won't produce the revenue needed to pay their way.

I'll say this again for those not paying attention. The only way the B12 expands is if the expansion can grow revenue. There are no schools in the Big East or the mid-major conferences that can do this. There is even some question as to whether some of the oft mentioned ACC schools can do it. Save yourselves the time and the next time you see a post, tweet, blog or whatever that lays out an expansion scenario for the B12 made up of teams that aren't currently in the real BCS conferences (or ND), just stop reading and never return.

I say we add Northern Illinois.
That would get the Big 12 in the state of Illinois and they played in a BCS bowl game this year!

I had promised to pistol whip the next person to propose a ridiculous expansion target, but due to your proper use of the jimlad and frequent delivery of the best lady picture threads on CF, I'm going to let this slide.

.... and NIU totally delivers the Chicago market!

Let's just add Northern Illinois, Louisville, Cincinnati, SMU, and Houston. Those are all good football schools that are reasonably close and would get us to 16 soonest.

Last year, Louisville took in nearly $88,000,000 in athletic revenue. I think that would put them about third in the Big 12 (according to the EADA numbers). And Louisville got that revenue despite being in a conference with a horrible (by today's standards) TV deal. For reference, Kentucky had revenue of nearly $86,000,000, and that being a member of the SEC.

For a school of 12,000 undergrads, either Louisville has one enormously rich alumni base, or they have a much larger national fan base and following than you give them credit for.

I think we could poach the New Mex schools also.

UNM definitely, but NMSU no way. Would not be opposed to Wyoming, Colorado State, and Idaho to make it an even 20 and give us a presence in the Western states.

Dude of WV now saying rumors of Texas to the Big 10 are resurfacing.

Also UNC to Big 10.

Gotta love Twitter.

I tend to think this is just Dodds throwing a hissy fit because the 9 other schools in the B12 voted against Texas' wishes to invite FSU and Clemson/Miami.

I really can't see Texas being happy in the B1G. They, along with ND don't need to move to a particular conference just for money.
