***Official Big 12 Expansion Thread '16***

I'll give you a topic, talk amongst yourselves-- If there's anyone out there who's bored over the weekend and who happens to spend time on other Big 12 teams forums, could you give a report of what other fans are thinking about expansion? I'm just curious.

I'd do it myself but I have crime to fight and lives to save. And also, I love hearing people's perspectives on other people's perspectives.

From what I have gathered from LT, Shaggy, and the big 12 forums. There are still a group that doesn't want to expand mostly Texas schools probably around 35% that are vocal about it.

Everyone is either indifferent or opposed to UH. Texas fans and Tech fans are pretty mad their Presidents came out in support for them.

Most people agree that if we do expand with G5 schools Cincy should be #11.

CSU is quickly becoming a forum favorite because of the awesome road trip plus Colorado has the second highest amount of big 12 alumni outside of Texas. I personally believe they have a lot of potential.

KU fans think they are going to the big ten (surprisingly I've seen quite a few say Iowa State should come with because they doubt OU would be voted in because of not being in the AAU).

Everyone's dream is AU, ASU, CU, and CSU/Cincy/UCLA it seems like. .

Those are some quick observations I've seen.

A little gas on the fire...
So, the comments about Pac-12 possibilities compelled me to contact my Pac-12 buddy who definitely is in the know. He had to be discrete, but he did say some members have quit the network. I don't know the specifics (ie sponsors, schools, when, why, etc). Nor will I ask my friend to compromise his position with anymore information. To me, that's big news. Especially since it puts these teams in a 'moving' position. Guessing, their TV contracts with the league TV network were incentive based on performance. And, as everyone knows, the Pac-12 network has not been doing as well as expected. I apologize in advance for not posting further on this because as I said, unless any additional information is 'offered' to me, I won't have anything else to pass on.

Wonder if that means that they now own just their Tier 3 rights or if they own Tier 1 and 2 also.

I read that to mean there are schools who no longer wish to fund the PACN (which is owned by conference members as a separate entity) and/or their Regional PACNs that serve various states (WA, OR, CA, AZ, etc.). Does that somehow trigger an escape clause in the Pac12 GOR? I think that is the key question. Fox/ESPN own their T1/T2 rights so that would not be impacted.

I think the other question is if there are schools that no longer want to fund the PACN, does that accelerate the sale of the PACN to Fox or some other outfit that would void the Pac12 GOR or facilitate a merger between the Pac12 and all or part of the B12 with a new T3 network.

Not another B12 school, but from a Cinci perspective the strongest feelings are that the B12 adds two or none. Most think the two are Cincinnati and Houston if the B12 expands. Some claim to have "insider" knowledge, but I take most of that with a grain of salt. The higher ups at UC have been quiet; and, I've heard from a number of people that it's a confident quiet. No buzz whatsoever about the B12 adding PAC schools. While I think that would be the best outcome for the B12, I just don't see it as likely.

DSMCy just posted this before I did... double link apologies.

It also says... The league will have video conference with 17 school it is unlikely to expand to 14 and either stay at 10 or just add 2 at this point.

This makes the most sense at this point though I assume there were talks with the commish, presidents and outside schools prior to the Big 12 media days this process seems a little rushed at this point. I'd rather hold off another year and wait on worthy canidates than just rush to 14 with teams that could hurt the Big 12 brand in the long run. That would only leave the conference ripe for turmoil and anger the TV partners when the GoR is up for renewal.

In regards to that article I'm beginning to wonder if Bowlsby and the Big 12 are trying to practice their poker face. I probably need to lay off the Kool-Aid.

If they expand with any number of teams, there will be a lengthy extension of the GOR.

I'm thinking the other 3 are P5 teams that don't want people to know they're looking. No other reason to keep them off the list.

Totally agree. Arizona, ASU and Colorado. Doesn't hurt them to have a video conference to see their options as long as it doesn't get out.
Even if it does get out could force the PAC 12 into making decisions to improve their schools situations (travel, improve TV deal and bigger say in decision making) or risk losing them in the future.

That is what J Pollard wants but rumors that isn't a priority of other schools (Texas) at this time. Guessing the compromise could be 2 teams now and extension of GOR if they go to 14 or 16 when/if worthy schools become available.
If ASU, Zona and Colorado are serious then I think the GOR will be extended.

Report on ESPN that unlikely to go to 14. Stay at 10 or up to 12 will be the most likely results.
