***Official American Craft Beer Week Thread***

I gotta admit...when I grabbed a couple Confluence quarts when I first saw them and didn't realize until after I checked out that they were $10 each (so, $10 for less than 3 beers), I kinda tapped the brakes on the craft beer. I really started looking at prices, and it's like it's an arms race to charge more for the same beer. Now, if we're talking a very heavy beer, or extremely hopped, I understand inputs are more, but I'm likely not grabbing those anyway, so for the same beer, I find it hard to grab those that are 8-10 a six pack, even.

Well, those are 32 oz growlers, so you're actually getting 4 full 16oz pints of beer with 2 of them. That's not much more than it would cost you in the brewery for the same beer (I think the growlers are $8 there? Can't remember), and about what you'd pay for a pint of it in the taproom. Craft beer costs a lot more to make not just because of the inputs, but because of the overhead associated with making, packaging, marketing and distributing beer at such a small scale. If you're looking to save some money, look at craft beer from some of the bigger regional breweries like New Belgium or Boulevard. Really great beer at generally great prices. If you'd rather support local breweries and allow them to expand and grow to the point where they can start canning/bottling and giving up some margin on beer in order to increase sales volume (which means you can buy it cheaper), we certainly appreciate the help :)

515 had an Iowa IPA tap takeover today. Stopped over after dinner and had a DART Dodger & Pseudo Sue.

Thanks for stopping by! Was pretty excited about the lineup we had yesterday!

HyVee on Fluer but they are gone now. They seem to have the best craft selection out of all the Hy-Vee's. Beer Crazy got in 5 last week so I assume they are gone as well.

Dang. I'll keep my eyes open for it I guess. I don't have much experience with Sour Beers, but sounds like something I'd enjoy.

TG getting bottles in today. PsuedoSue, Naughty Temple (Naughty 90 Oaked IPA aged in Templeton Barrels) and David IIPA, a collaboration with Tree House Brewing.

I guess I know what I'm doing tonight.

For all of you Hop Heads, Exile just came out with their first IPA last week.

Sorta....

(wasn't impressed at all. Thomas Beck at Confluence is the best in town IMO. The Hopititus at 515 have been good. As has the Dart Dodger. Still waiting on something good out of Exile)

Anyone try Lion Bridge brewing in Cedar Rapids, or Franklin Street in Manchester yet?

Hoping to hit those on a trip back to Dubuque this weekend.

And Potosi while there (thanks Kilgore_Trout)

And hopefully hit Single Speed in Cedar Falls on the way back.

They keeping them up north or are they distributing some of the new bottles down to Ames/DSM? Really want to try David.
