I think they got the awards right so far except the coach. I agree with some in saying Haith should have been coach of the year. Granted he has a lot of seniors however, he has taken a team with zero size and depth and has formulated a scheme that gets the maximum out of what he has. Even moreover is the fact Missouri always plays hard. I hate the school, I'll root against them every time, but I am still objective enough to give credit where credit is due. Haith has done a fantastic job.
With that said it's not like these were HORRIBLE choices. I think in terms of coaching individuals, Self does the best job in the league on an annual basis. He pushed the right buttons with Robinson to make him a star, he turned Withey into one of the best post defeders in the country, and corralled Tyshawn's stupidity enough to make him dangerous. Hoiberg on the other hand completely turned a program around with an infusion of talented players. Fred still has to show he can consistently make proper in game adjustments (Allen should have had his *** benched early in the first in favor of Tyrus, not in the 2nd), but he hasn't been in the game too long so hopefully it comes with experience.
I really think the defensive award is a 1A and 1B kind of thing, but they made the right choice in selecting Withey. Babb can completely shut down a perimeter PLAYER, but Withey can completely shut down the entire lane. I saw him single-handedly alter 4 Baylor shots in 4 straight possessions. All shots were within 8 feet of the basket but none of them were close as the trajectories were changed just to get over a leaping Withey. Those were essentially 4 straight TOs but you wouldn't know it by looking at the boxscore.
As for Dixon, well, it's hard to argue with that one. The guy comes in and makes ridiculous shots. You can't really stop what he does, rather only hope he has an off-game.
