***Official 2024 Weather Thread***

Of this Top-10 list, the only two that had multiple, separate 6"+ events were 1923, and 1893.

1888 was 17" all in one day.

The top spot contains the Des Moines single day record, with 19.8 on New Year's Day of 1942.

5.4” needed to enter the top 3, 7.9” needed to take the 2nd spot. It can be done!

Anyone driven around in the DSM metro lately?

Just found out my HVAC system is shutting on and off and it recommends to either clean or replace my filter. So seeing if its possible to get to Menards ect.

Not much yet here in west CR. Sidewalk has a decent drift, but more spots blown bare.
Wind is gonna be the problem i think.

Super powdery and light snow so it's hard to tell, but Im gonna guess 2" or so in Ames so far. A few small drifts but can still see 75% concrete of my driveway and sidewalks.

Same here in South Ames at 7:28 AM. I wouldn’t mind if we don’t accumulate much else!

This is the type of day where it sucks to live really close to work. They basically called the day off for anyone who goes out and about, but office people are essentially show up if you can. Since my wife isn't going in, I just took her car (AWD) and said screw the driveway for now. My lungs are killing me from just getting over the flu.

All the additional snow sucks, but with the really strong winds and the bitter cold, my biggest concern is a power outage.

I just ran a quick errand and there are pretty big drifts already and the blizzard warning doesn't even start here (Waterloo-Cedar Falls) for another 2+ hours.

It's going to get really, really nasty.

Sounds like a snow sleet mix in Marion right now. Winds slowly picking up.

Also sounds like the ISU wrestling match may be moved up to 5PM and be closed to the public.
