***Official 2024 Weather Thread***

I hope EVERYONE is being careful moving snow. I know to many guys who have had heart attacks moving snow.

Actually, the exact opposite. Cold air is denser (heat / warm air rises), and these extreme temps really reduce the lift of an airplane wing due to increased drag coefficients in this dense, cold air. Engine performance (efficiency) is also affected, creating a double-whammy.
First part you are on the right track. Due to the increased density it vastly improves performance as there is more air density to lift.

These snow storms in central Iowa are going to be a debacle for at least a couple of weeks. Not really going to warmup for melting. I saw around Jan 23/24 there is rain forecasted with high temps around 38. Can't wait....

FYI, I like to run outside, even in winter. This is all going to cramp my style some.

I need some of this to melt because if we get another 10 inches I won't be able to get out my back door.

This time of year the sun really does make a bit of a difference.
Yep, I've raised the blinds on all of our south facing windows to let as much sunlight into our house as possible, and I lowered our thermostat to 68 degrees. Every little bit helps.

I have a 30 year old furnace so I run the fireplace all day, put a space heater by in the same area as the thermostat, and have a humidifier going. The furnace hasn't kicked on since about 9 this morning. I keep my thermostat at 65.

I figured since it's going to run all night anything I can do to give it a rest during the day is helpful.

Love the air hoses at Kwik Star. Don't need a tire gage. You set the desired air pressure and start pumping your tire up. The air automatically shuts off when it reaches that pressure.
Costco does the same. Really nice when the weather is cold and you don't want to waste any time out there messing around.
