I started regular watering maybe just over a week ago, before this latest heat wave, for the same reason. Any time I let mine go dormant the weeds take over very quickly. Looking to support it back to a strong growth environment before winter.
Put a soaker nozzle on the end of my hose and set a five minute timer and moved it around my columnar white pines for 90 minutes to give them a good soaking in. Will do the same for the crabapple tree today. Already did same for 10 Japanese yews. Could see drying needles on them.....should have been hitting them earlier.
