Weather Channel (yeah I know...) seems to be pointing Iowa out as a concern for intense weather Wednesday evening into Thursday...locally it seems like it is being treated as a chance for rain. Anyone have any concerns about this being severe?

There’s a Slight Risk with all hazards possible but TV Stations are slaves to the viewers and there is nothing more that viewers hate thinking about more than Wheel of Fortune/Inside Edition potentially being pre-empted due to Severe Weather coverage so tv stations play it safe. No matter what they might try to claim to the contrary. There are few groups that are more vicious than local news viewers (ie watch a single station from 4 or 5 - 7 daily)in a red state.

Guessing that’s gonna be more western Iowa. Doesn’t look like anything in central Iowa till after midnight.

Was kind of funny to see our birdbath frozen over yesterday morning, a few days after we took out the heater.

I live in Ankeny and went to put a few screw in stakes to hold down our little kids trampoline after the winds have moved it across the yard a few days in a row. I thought since it was spring, the ground would be soft and they would go in easily. They went in super hard so it looks like we could certainly use some rain. It has been a relatively dry spring so far so I am hoping for some rain.

After all these years I can’t believe Ed Wilson hasn’t figured out how not to block the category on Wheel of Fortune with his weather alerts. Come on Ed!

With this type of pattern occurring at this time of year............severe is never off the books. In fact it's going to happen somewhere in the midwest tomorrow just like it already is around Hastings NE.

Where and when it happens tomorrow is the question. It's that time of year.

Don't think it's going to be an "outbreak"......but there will certainly be some unlucky people.

Non storm question but just in general forecasting question.

Looking out at the 10 day on a variety of sites and potential impacts to a travel plans. If they are forecasting a rainy stretch or rainy weather in general what the heck is that based on? Is it generally just a guess on the normal trend/averages for a location or are they seeing something that far out to make a guess.

Timmer is focusing on Missouri and Oklahoma tomorrow night.

You're correct on some points, but it's more likely that this is a case of recency bias for many people. The two recent severe weather days in Iowa were moderate/high risk setups & accordingly got a lot of coverage in the preceding days, so it might seem like forecasters are downplaying this one (a slight risk, up until this morning) by comparison.

Last time in Iowa he was running around like chicken with it's head cut off trying to find pay dirt.

I would say there is probably as much or more a chance to see some serious action in the tri area of NE Kansas, SE Nebby and SW Iowa than where he is going to be.

He said he preferred to stay south and made it seem like this was due to external factors (maybe what he has to do tomorrow?)
