Not, what I'm saying. I wonder how many late round picks lose their roster spot to guys currently in those leagues. More guys are extending their window by playing in those leagues.

By my count, 27 ISU players have been selected in rounds 1-4 in NFL draft history. Seven of those are within the past five years (2019-23).

How did Xavier Hutchinson do at combine and what are his odds of sticking with Texans? Is he really undersized for his type of WR in NFL or about average? He seemed as fundamentally sound as any WR we had at ISU.

I know very little about NFL other than I watch games where ISU players get heavy minutes.

He doesn't have tremendous competition so that should help.

A number of write-up summaries I've read have specifically mentioned him as someone to watch, so at least the outside observers seem to think positively.

Brady was a 6th round pick, Purdy was the last pick. Lazard & Thielen were both undrafted free agents. There have been plenty of top picks that were misses and complete busts.

In the end it's all a crapshoot.

Thats not entirely true. Yeah, their are exceptions like Purdy and total busts like JaMarcus Russell.

If you go back and look at drafts a majority of the guys who have productive NFL careers will come from the first 3 rounds, after that it really starts to fall off, especially when you start looking into it for fantasy purposes.

We remember busts like DeMarcus Russell, Ryan Leaf, Tony Mandarich because they’re outliers … just like Tom Brady on the other end. In general, earlier draft picks will perform better than late picks/UDFAs. In general … but nothing is guaranteed, which is why having a keen eye when it comes to talent evaluation is so important.
