By all accounts there was no risk. That office made the two worst, biggest headscratching picks of the night. Some thought McDonald was a reach but he was routinely talked about as a first rounder and it's plausible, if not likely, the Jets needed to take him somewhere close to where they did in order to get him. But these picks? When you are making two universally panned picks it suggests your front office/scouting department is incompetent. At the very least they don't understand how to use/manage their draft capital to get what they want...and get the most out of it.
Will is a marginal reach, as he was routinely talked about as a first round talent that would, at best, last until the 40th pick. I hadn't seen a mock that had Campbell going above a mid-2nd, with many having him in the 3rd round. They aren't even comparable IMO.
Not sure what was a worse pick, the RB or Campbell for them. Both were reaches of positional value and proportionate value as to where other teams/experts had those players rated.
If it was just Kiper, then maybe. Of the ten mock draft guys I track, none had Campbell as a first rounder. Of the guys who ratings are fairly spot on, Daniel Jerimiah, he had him rated 49th.
Nah, if a HC and front office know the guy they want, get that guy. I doubt they're going to lose sleep if draft analysts and message board experts don't like it. Lol.
I'm sure this has been discussed, but since I'm not intense follower of NFL draft ... any ISU guys projected to get selected on Night 2, rounds 2 & 3?

Pick value only means something during the three days of the draft. After that, it doesn't matter if Campbell got picked at 18 or 30. It only matters if he can play. If he becomes Detroit's starting linebacker for the next 8-10 years, nobody is going to care if they reached for him by a few picks.
The hit rate for first round picks is only about 50% anyway.

Petras just got insulted by ESPN announcers and he’s not even in the draft.
I'd say X has the best chance. I think Johnson is a day 3 guy if he gets drafted.

Green Bay is young, young, young at the offensive receiving positions. Their top 3 wideouts and starting tight end, could all be first and second year guys. Might be a bit of a learning curve this year, but they should have plenty of talent surrounding Jordan Love.

Why the hell did Seattle take a running back? Walker is very good, already and only entering his second year.
Yeah, they lost Penny but now they will have a commitee. Seattle and Detroit seem to really be screwing up this draft, they both have elite offenses already but continue to load up on offense even though they need major defensive help.
