Like I said I don't like the decision to return him personally I'd rather use Bote in the spot but I wouldn't want to commit to a multi year contract because Shaw looks like the real deal. If he's not ready mid-season you can always add at the deadline. Madrigal deserves the mass majority of starts next year if Cande doesn't resign.I really hope we are done with Wisdom after this season and don't tender him a contract. Time to move on from him if we are serious about competing. There are more consistent bats than him that I would rather see get a chance than waste a roster spot on him. He seems to be the type of player that we used to have too many of when we were underachieving which is guys with power but strike out a lot and don't get on base enough otherwise either. He'll be 33 next year too so can't count on him to be any better than what he is now. In 3 seasons his batting average and WAR continue to decline and his strikeout rate is still horrible. I'll toast a beer the day he's no longer a Cub
Some of you may say I'm not a "real fan" but I'm such a big basketball/NBA fan that I usually just tune into baseball in July. It's just a matter of not being able to follow everything.
but since I have tuned in in early July Suzuki has been an absolute beast! Maybe he was lousy in April/May/June...since I've been listening to every game on radio in early July the guy has just crushed it.
He missed all of spring training due to an injury. He looked lost early but the benching turned it around for him.
I saw a breakdown on MLB TV on him during the benching. Showing how he was flying open giving away the outer half of the plate. Now he looks to drive it the other way and the pulls come on inner half hangers.
They gone!Milwaukee down 4-3 bottom of seven on the road. Could be a nice day for the good guys.
Why then would you keep Wisdom around to waste a 40 man as a 33 year old when you can use that spot to protect a guy in the minors from the Rule 5 draft? Bote is not on the 40 man right now so he's not an issue and Mastrobuoni is 27 so there is more upside to keeping him around over Wisdom but I would shed no tears if he was released too. Likely be some guys like Heuer and Burdi on the chopping block too. If they don't upgrade 3B I'm fine with Madigral in the short term there. Some of the 40 man stuff will get figured out once they know what will happen with some of the options guys have or what happens with free agency that could open up some more 40 man spots tooOur 40 man is going to have some tough decisions so I'd rather live with Wisdom, Bote or Masterbouni as the backup that way you're not committed to a multi year deal and have to make a tough decision to call Shaw up.
I think that last spot on the active roster goes to Wisdom, Masterbouni or Bote. Only one will be on the 40 the other two DFA or non tendered. You need some sort of backup infielder on the roster until Shaw comes up. Maybe Morel figures 3rd out and you can cut them all loose but for now you need a guy that can play 3rd when Swanson, Hoerner or Madrigal need a day off or just a break glass in case of emergency guy. Personally I'd rather live with a bad option short term then rush a prospect too fast. Why then would you keep Wisdom around to waste a 40 man as a 33 year old when you can use that spot to protect a guy in the minors from the Rule 5 draft? It's 7-0, facing the bottom of the lineup, and the Cubs used a bunch of pitchers last night. Unless Wicks is gassed, it sure would be nice to get one more inning out of him.78 pitches, do they send him out in the 7th?
Hindsight says no but it's good he got the opportunity. Hopefully Palencia can get us out of this the we can use Little and another low leverage guy to close it out. It's 7-0, facing the bottom of the lineup, and the Cubs used a bunch of pitchers last night. It's great that MIL lost, but did you see that called third strike to end the game?! CB Bucknor needs to go.They gone!
