What a pitching performance by Assad. He should remain in the rotation. Stroman should be a long relief.
Will be curious if Stroman's injury is still impacting him. He seemed to be twisting his torso at times to stretch.

Assad is pitching better, but it might be easier for Stroman to start as it allows him to warm up a planned time. Whereas Assad has the experience to come in relief and physically able to loosen up in fewer pitches.

Assad had been a real nice find the 2nd half of the season. He could be a nice rotation piece next season.

So the Division is gone... What does everyone want? Do you want to play the Wild Card round in Milwaukee (which would be 5-6 straight there since that's where we end the season), or do you want Philly?

Philly. I'll pass on Woodruff and Peralta.

That said, just being in is a huge win considering where things were headed in June.

One of the “benefits” of being in our situation is we aren’t winning the central and the Brewers are all but guaranteed the 3 seed, so it’s probably a safe bet they won’t throw Burnes, Woodruff, or Peralta during our series in Milwaukee, which definitely helps our chances getting into the postseason.

I am nervous. Cuas is in the game. I hope he has good control today.

Braves still playing for home field advantage in the WS. 3 up on Baltimore and have TB. Really need to find a way to steal a couple in Atlanta.

Houston is fighting for their playoff lives so we might get some help from the against Arizona. Im more concerned with the Marlins, they get the Mets and Pirates who have nothing but pride to play for.

Focus is still obviously on this year, but Padres are wanting to drastically shed payroll for next year and beyond.

Juan Soto is who Bleacher Nation would like to target. I’d obviously take him but I have another potential offer.

How about Fernando Tatis and move him to 3B, where he had some small, albeit successful, playing time in the minors?

- He is owed $325 million over the course of the next 10 years. Offer a couple top prospects and see if they’d pay a third of that, a la Mets?

- He and the Padres FO aren’t exactly on great terms, so I’m sure they’d be ok with parting from him

I absolutely think this is going to be a WILD off-season for baseball.

I would love to get Tatis, but the Padres aren't going to be sending any money with him, and he'd be pretty expensive to acquire. He's 24. He established himself as probably the best defensive RF in baseball this year, and he's going to put up almost 5 WAR in a "down" (for him) offensive year. I think he would probably get close to $400M on the free market. You're probably looking at parting ways with a PCA level prospect and more just to get him on his current contract.

Of course, why not both? Tatis might fill the bigger need, so I'll allow it.

Excited for the pre-playoffs starting tonight!

Shaw would likely be the centerpiece for Tatis. Add Canario and pitcher or two not at the top of our prospect list and it makes sense. His contract is actually pretty team friendly.
