They're getting beat to the ball a lot more these last 5 minutes or so.
Correct. Getting scored twice in 5 minutes is most times due a mental lapse. Think they played well with the 2x0 lead. Maybe they needed a couple more subs before that PK to keep the intensity going.
 
Extra time is going to be crazy. A lot of exhausted players that's going to create a lot of chances.
 
Novice here, but why did Mbappe get to kick the penalty kick for their first goal? He wasn’t the one who was fouled. Can anyone on the team take the kick?

Rules say anyone can kick them. It’s essentially a direct free kick and there is no rule on who can take it.
 
I think one thing that hurts Proper Football (Soccer's) growth in America is that we don't get, or rarely get, amazing matches in the WC Final or Champs League Final. We get them week in week out in domestic leagues but never really on the biggest stage.

Will be interesting to see if this match changes the perception of the game for the casual sports fan here in the USA.
