***Official 2022 Transfer Thread***

From the videos I've seen, he can handle the ball fairly well for his size and has a good stroke from three. Lower efficiency from deep this year but on much higher volume, year before shot it extremely well when he wasn't relied on to do it as much. Plus, he played really well against P6 teams. Could be a really good fit if we see the offense run a lot through the post up at the top of the key again, given that Basile could do a lot more with the ball than Conditt or Jones.
So we should expect the next Nikola jokic. Got it!

I think TJ is looking for more Niang than McKay in the post.
Really? McKay was super efficient and an excellent defender. A much better Jones/Conditt imo, two guys we played a combined 30 minutes.

I'd hope he is looking for both equally. I don't think TJ is so rigid in what he wants in a player that he's passing on All-Big 12 talents.

Jones/ Conditt were played out of necessity.
And even then, our best lineups were with Jazz as the post.

Agree, TJ won't be rigid.

McKay was an excellent RIM PROTECTOR. He could not defend the high pick and roll to save his life, and running that neutralized his effectiveness by pulling him out of the lane.

Comparing McKay and Jones/Conditt defensively is apples and oranges. McKay protected the rim well but I don't think he could do what Jones, Conditt and Jazz are asked to do in TJ's scheme. They are routinely getting switched off on guards and forced to cover ground and close out on rotations. I don't think McKay could have done that near as well as they do.

An interesting comparison.

Here's McKay's numbers his senior year:
30.5mpg, 11.0 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 1.7 bpg, 0.9 apg, 0.5 spg, 1.5 to/g, 2.3 fouls/g, 60.5 FG%, 53.5 FT%

Here's the combined Conditt/Jones numbers for this year:
30.6mpg, 7.8 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 1.3 bpg, 2.7 apg, 0.9 spg, 2.3 to/g, 4.7 fouls/g 59.2 FG%, 53.5 FT%

Amazingly apples-to-apples comparison, minutes-wise, and McKay was clearly better than the Conditt/Jones combo in every category except Assists and Steals.

Also, McKay was VERY good at his role

Is this serious? McKay had much better ability to switch to guards. It’s not even comparable.

It’s apples to oranges because of that. McKay is Jones/Conditt role, but better.

Conditt’s improvement over previous years was notable. McKay would thrived.

The fact Jones was recruited and playing combined 30 minutes with Conditt, despite our best lineup with Jazz as the post, says they’d lean McKay imo.

Are we really arguing McKay against Jones/Conditt? McKay was elite in his role as a junior and Prohm managed him poorly as a senior. Jones/Conditt had to be close to, if not the worst post tandem in P6 basketball this year.

I'm fine with Bob Jones coming back as a clear backup/emergency post but I'm not sure we can do worse than what we had down low this past year. Which is a kudos to TJ and the staff for playing their cards right to make the Sweet 16.

Bingo. We can appreciate that Conditt and Jones were both super invested this year and were great locker room guys while at the same time recognizing that they were not great basketball players at this level.

We HAVE to improve the front court this offseason.
